Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win.

– Stephen King

Long Night is a third-person survival psychological horror game with both traditional and original features. Indie developer Trickster Face wants to reconnect you with the atmosphere of classic survival horror as experienced in such games as Resident Evil 1, Silent Hill 2, Haunting Ground and Obscure in a new, intriguing way.

Paranormal elements and the game’s original story will serve to give life to characters’ psychological fears, which must be confronted.

There will be exploration of strange territories, puzzling enigmas and bosses to fight. However, there will be no shotguns or giant monsters.

Lurking fear, rather than pure action sustained by firearms and noisy special effects, will reside at the center of Long Night‘s gaming experience.

The story that drives Long Night takes place in 1998 in a campground in the middle of the woods, where four teenage friends get together every year. This particular year, they spend their last night at the camp telling horror stories.

Soon, they find themselves in a genuine nightmare during which they are tormented by their darkest secrets. They are separated and lose all contact with each other. This is where the real game begins.

You step into the shoes of David. As he looks for his friends during that long night, he must face the monsters that lurk in their hearts — and possibly in his own — and try not to lose his sanity in the process.

Long Night will be released for PC, Linux and Mac (and later for PS3 and Xbox 360) in both English and French, with a target date of May 2014.

A demo is currently available and a Kickstarter campaign is in progress until January 15, 2014. The game is also looking to be Greenlit.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
