The Wolf Among Us is a mature experience. It’s violent and gritty. It explores adult themes. Its characters are bloody and sexy. None of them has ever appeared on a child’s lunchbox.

Fables, by Bill Willingham, is an Eisner Award-winning comic book series that was first published by Vertigo, an imprint of DC Comics, in 2002. It tells the tale of characters and creatures of myth, lore and legend who seek refuge in our world after fleeing from their homelands and the tyranny of ‘The Adversary.’

It’s not necessary to know anything about the comic books in order to enjoy The Wolf Among Us, which takes place prior to the events in Fables.

Fabletown is an area of New York City where many of the Fables live in exile. They remain hidden through magic and subterfuge. Those who cannot pass as humans must wear a magical ‘glamour’ to remain in Fabletown. Fables incapable of hiding their true nature must live in upstate New York, secluded on ‘The Farm.’

You are Bigby Wolf, THE Big Bad Wolf of story and legend. He is also the Sheriff of Fabletown, well-suited for the position by his powerful senses and ability to revert back to his true form: a giant wolf.

In Fabletown, you’ll meet characters you think you know, among them Beauty and the Beast (an interesting couple); Ichabod Crane (Deputy Mayor) and his assistant, Snow White; a flying drunken monkey from Oz (a sort-of librarian); Colin the Pig – of three little pigs fame –  a regular (unwelcome) guest in Bigby’s apartment, and the Woodsman, who has a ‘history’ with Bigby. These are just some of the Fables you’ll encounter.

As an adventure game, The Wolf Among Us will test your morals and emotions. As an RPG, it will have you behave as the kind of character you want to be. It’s also a game of decisions in which you will live with the consequences of those decisions. It is drama, action, suspense and thriller.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal.
