Square Enix released today a new special effects trailer for the upcoming release of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. The new trailer features Lightning and the rest of the cast members in an array of visuals within the Nova Chrysalia World. The trailer is viewable below:

The game has already been released in Japan, with the US getting theirs February 11, 2014 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Set 500 years after Final Fantasy XIII-2, Lightning (who was a protagonist in Final Fantasy XIII and a key character in XIII-2) awakens from self-imposed hibernation. While getting beauty sleep is good and all, Lightning has woken up just thirteen days from the end of the world. She is now tasked with saving the people of the dying world, an adventure that will have her running into characters from the previous two Final Fantasy games, as well as new characters and factions that will either support or oppose her mission.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII looks to wrap up the story of both Lightning and the XIII universe, and will be bringing new content such as more action-based combat system and an open world that players can freely explore.

I've been with JA in one capacity or other since 2003. I'm currently website administrator. I'm also a digital artist (my avatar is one of my creations). I write reviews and articles, create graphics and basically help tend the site. It's work I enjoy very much. I love playing games of all kinds, but adventure and RPGs are my favorites (particularly scary/dark/unsettling ones). At the top of my list are The Cat Lady, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Still Life (first one only), Scratches and Culpa Innata. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool recluse and prefer the company of animals, hardware and ghosts to human beings (no offense). And no bio would be complete without my saying that I do NOT care for phones of ANY sort. Further, I think Dell computers are garbage and that Microsoft has become megalomaniacal. "I put my heart and soul into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." - Vincent Van Gogh "I need solitude for my writing; not like a hermit - that wouldn't be enough - but like a dead man." - Franz Kafka "I've been to hell and back, my boy." - Susan Ashworth, The Cat Lady
