Jane Jensen – the
grand dame of adventure gaming – is
at her storytelling peak in this middle entry of the famed Gabriel
Knight trilogy. While any of the three games would be appropriate for this article,
The Beast Within is perhaps most indicative of the underlying sexual themes so prevalent
in Ms. Jensen’s works.

The title alone is rift
with double entendres and once installed, you could cut the game’s sexual tension with a knife. Gabriel
and Grace in full-motion-video portrayed by flesh-and-blood actors.
Furtive glances, secret touches; light nibbling on the neck … and
that is just between Gabe and nemesis Von Glower! Hints of homosexuality
run rampant, not to mention werewolf bestiality. The only ones who
don’t get it on are Grace and Gabe. Be bold, one of you play as Grace
and the other as Gabe. Invite a friend to wear a werewolf mask and
play along, make it a threesome – or is that a screamsome?
