NOTE 2: As with most adventure
games, there are more potential experiences than are required to complete
the game. This walkthrough is a bare bones
walkthrough. Following it explicitly will reduce the enjoyment of trial
and error. More details and reasons for doing what you are doing is provided
in the walkthrough that is in the “cheats.doc” file on the
disk.
Trev’s brother Daniel is very sick in bed after eating some berries
yesterday. It’s up to Trev to find a cure and save the day. But where
to start? The game begins in Trev’s house…
Trev’s House
Turn right and walk to Trev and Daniel’s bedroom. Walk over to the
chest of drawers and get out all the clothes you need: pants, shirt, and
shoes. (The hint guide/companion, Bertie, is located on top of the chest
of drawers but is not required to complete the game). Return to the kitchen
and then go down the stairs outside.
Outside
Exiting the house, turn right and walk around the side of the house. Your
cousin, Glen is there, looking miserable, having lost his watch in what
can only be called a freak golfing accident in the backyard. After pledging
to return it to him, go in the garage.
Garage
Open the toolbox on the bench and take the screwdriver and wrench. Exit
the garage and walk down the driveway. Go down to the left side of the
street and walk up to the house.
Sludge’s House
At the right side of the house is a garbage can. Open the lid and take
the bone from inside it. Return to your house and go to the other side
of the house.
Trev’s House
Get the key out of the fuse box. Use the key to open the side gate. Throw
the bone to the dog on the other side. Use the screwdriver to force the
jammed gate open. Go into the backyard.
Backyard
Turning to the left, on the patio at the back of the house is a brick barbecue.
Take the spade from under the barbecue. Further along is the mischievous
sandpit that has swallowed Cousin Glen’s watch! The watch is in
a random spot so just dig in a systematic way (i.e. left to right and
top to bottom) and you’ll find the watch. Return to Glen.
Front Yard
Give the watch to Glen. This seems to brighten him up and he challenges
you to a game of basketball. This puzzle gets easier the longer you attempt
it so don’t panic if you have trouble at the beginning. The game
is quite easy once you realize you have two possible ways of defeating
Glen: you can put him off when he’s trying to make a shot and you
can outscore him with good eye-hand coordination. Click on Glen to disrupt
his concentration. Hold the mouse button down different amounts to add
more power to your shot. With a little practice, you’ll beat Glen
easily. Once beaten, he gives you a key. Return to the backyard.
Backyard
Turn right immediately on arriving in the back yard. Walk to the aviary.
Use the key to unlock the aviary at the bottom of the door. Go to the
back of the aviary. Check in all the holes in the roost. You will find
a flashlight. Return to the garage.
Garage
Go to the back of the garage where the workbench is. Turn left and walk
up to the door. A “Keep Out” sign just begs adventurers to
enter! The door is jammed. Use the screwdriver to force the door open.
Secret Room
Turn immediately right and you will see a very scary sight: some of the
worst “I’m crazy” acting ever discovered and recorded
video media! This reject from the Jean Claude van Damme Acting School
is your father. He can’t see properly. Give him the flashlight
and he’ll give you a tasty looking (though surely not cold) bottle
of orange drink. Go out to the road again. This time go to the right.
Wardie’s Place
At the end of the drive is a double garage. Raise the roller door and go
in. The old geezer is the local fix-it man. If you try to take the bike
seat from the bench top, Wardie warns you away, mentioning his thirst.
Give him the orange drink. Now you can take the bike seat. Cross the
street to Sludge’s Place again.
Sludge’s Place
Now that Debbie is home, it’s safe to go to Sludge’s. This
can be a little tricky. Be sure you knock on the door. If you try the handle,
Sludge comes out, thinking you are trying to break in. Talk to Debbie and
she’ll give you your helmet. Return to the garage.
Garage
When you enter the garage, turn left and look at the bike. Use the bike
seat with the bike, using the wrench to secure it. Pick up the bike and
you’ll ride it. You arrive on a peninsula of land leading into
the sea.
Peninsula
Another random element is found in this section. There are six possible
places to stop, mostly on the left side. The best way to explore each
area is to immediately press the brake lever on your bike each time you
set off. This will ensure you stop at each of the places. At each stop
there are several places to explore. You are trying to find bread, a
jar, and some balloons. Once you have found these items, leave the peninsula.
Just before leaving it, the bike will stop automatically. Turn left and
approach the fisherman. If he isn’t there, he will be at the extreme
tip of the peninsula, fishing. He will initially be unfriendly toward
you until you give him the bread to try. The fisherman needs to know
what kind of berries they are before he can help. Return to Trev’s
House.
Trev’s House
In the kitchen in the house, fill both the jar and balloons with water
at the kitchen sink. In the bedroom, ask Daniel where he found the berries.
Give him the jar of water and he tells you he was at Mount Brown. Leave
the house once again.
Outside
Go down the drive again with the bike. This time you will go to Mount Brown.
Mount Brown
As you leave the main road, a Krazee (this is the only way to spell such
Krazee acting!) Hermit leaps out to block the path. Throw a water balloon
at him and he’ll flee. Again, the “find the berries” puzzle
become easier with ongoing difficulty. The way to find the berries is
to take the following turns: right, left, right, right, left, left. Turn
right when you stop at a dry riverbed. Walk ahead until you can go no
further. At left, pick the berries from the dark green bush. Return to
the riverbed. Turn right. Return home and then return to the peninsula.
Peninsula
Go to the end of the peninsula. When you get off the bike, continue to
walk forward to the water’s edge. Show the fisherman the berries.
The berries were the kind he guessed they were. The cure for this type
of poisoning is pure water from a waterfall. The nearest waterfall is
in the rainforest. But how to get to the rainforest? Return home.
Trev’s House
Check the mail in the mailbox. Take out the flyer. What a coincidence-a
flyer about the rainforest delivered today! Get on the bike and drive
to the rainforest.
Rainforest
The game disk includes a map of the rainforest. I have copied it into the
walkthrough (see below). There are several paths that will get you to
the end but the one outlined in green is the most efficient. Go right
at the “Mossy Tree Trunk”. At the “Twisted Vine”,
all wasps must be swatted with the hand icon before you can proceed.
Go left when all the wasps are gone (they don’t return incidentally,
should you lose your way and have to return). At the “Hollow Tree
Trunk”, go left. This results in a dangerous-looking fall into
a ditch. Once you have regained your footing, use the screwdriver as
a step out of the “Crumbling Rock Ditch”. Go to the left
at the “Three Way Intersection with Steps”. Turn to the right
at the “Double Tree Trunk”. Proceed and go left at the “Devil’s
Staircase”. Go up the stairs at the left to Rainbow Falls.
Rainbow Falls
Use the jar to collect the fresh water. Retrace your steps and return home.
Trev’s House
Go to the bedroom. Give your brother the pure water. He makes a miraculous
recovery and the game ends with cutscenes.
