We played this game on
the most difficult level – Spooktacular – so if you play on another
level you may find some of the puzzles and arcade sequences are easier,
though the solutions remain the same.
Inventory items and solutions
remain the same no matter which of the three levels you play, but
the clues you are given by the suspects and the identity of the villain
will change from game to game.
Introduction:
The Mystery Inc. gang is
once again just cruising along in their van, minding their own business
when out of the blue there is a loud roar followed by a fireball that
strikes and damages the Mystery Van. By a lucky coincidence there
happens to be a medieval castle on a nearby hill so it is off to the
castle in search of repairs.
The Drawbridge:
To enter the castle, the
gang must first lower the drawbridge; an easy puzzle that only requires
some astute observation. Atop the castle are four flags of varying
colors. Simply click on the four flags on the ground until they are
in the same order as the flags atop the castle and voila, the drawbridge
lowers to allow entry.
The Town’s Main Courtyard:
Once on the castle grounds
main courtyard, eerie bagpipe music and a strange moaning sound is
heard: a foreboding of the mysteries to follow perhaps? To the north
is the main entrance to Joust For Fun. To the east is a souvenir shop
and to the west a storeroom.
The Storeroom
Go left to the storeroom.
Click on the barred door to examine the four seals on the shield –
a dragon, a deer, a shrub and a lion – we will need to click on these
four seals in a specific order to open the barred door. Now return
to the courtyard.
The Souvenir Shop
Go right to the souvenir
shop. On the floor is a water bottle that we will later need, but
we also need to find four tokens to meet the purchase price. Now go
left and return to the main courtyard.
The Room of Doors
Move the gang north towards
Joust For Fun. You are now in the Room of Doors. Click of the second
door to the left, Shaggy will say it is the armory. Enter this room
and then take the feather duster from the knight at the far left.
Exit the armory and then click on the door to the far right to overhear
a suspicious conversation.
The Throne Room
Now go through this door
and watch a video of Jane McHaggis. You will discover that she is
the owner of Joust For Fun, a medieval dinner theater. She will complain
that Sir Mortimer the Black Knight has kidnapped her niece, Bernice,
the star of the show. Notice that there is a gem missing from the
throne in the center of the room. Click on the throne to obtain more
information.
The Arena
Go through the door at
the top left to enter the Arena. You cannot do anything here at the
moment, but take note of the grindstone to the left. Return to the
throne room.
Sir Lacksalot
Go through the door on
the far right to find a jumbled knight. Sir Lacksalot will ask for
help pulling off his armor. This is a random puzzle and is solved
differently every time, but there is no penalty for removing an incorrect
piece so take your time. Once Sir Lacksalot has been freed from his
dilemma, he will ask the gang to help find his shield.
The Throne Room
Return to the throne room
and give the feather duster to Jane McHaggis. She will inform the
gang about the security cameras in the Magic Mirror room. Exit to
the Room of Doors.
The Room of Doors
Chester the Jester will
be waiting for you. After clicking on him and cringing through his
pitiful jokes, he will ask the gang to help him find his juggling
balls.
The Dining Room
Go in the first door to
the left, this is the dining room. After Maria Hernandez tells the
gang her life story, she will then ask you to help balance her dishes.
This is a random puzzle. You must place equal amount of weight on
both sides. Use the balance chart in the background for weights of
the various plates. After you have balanced an equal weight of plates
on both trays, Maria will provide the gang with another clue. Click
on the silver food platter on the table. A giant hamburger will be
revealed and, after Shaggy and Scooby devour half of it, the rest
of the burger will go into your inventory. Now click on the glass
of root bear on the table to play a variation of Tapper.
Knights of the Snack
Table
The goal here is too provide
thirsty knights with a glass of root beer. You must then catch their
empty mugs when they are returned. The better you do the more Scooby
Snacks for Scooby. On the harder level you must successfully serve
more knights to earn a Scooby Snack. Once you think you have acquired
enough Scooby Snacks, exit the mini-game to return to the Dining Room.
The Royal Gallery
Click on the large door
at the top right of the screen to enter the Royal Gallery. Take the
jester ball on the floor and Chester will pop-up and provide the proper
order to click on the shield above the barred door – dragon, lion,
deer, bush. Notice the Magic Mirror. Nothing can be done yet with
the mirror, but it will be important later.
The Kitchen
Go back to the dining room
and click on the blue door in the center of the screen. Daphne and
Fred will go to the kitchen and meet the cook Ewan McHaggis. He will
ask you some questions that you should know the answers to if you
have been paying attention. After you have correctly answered all
of the questions he will provide the gang with another clue.
The Pantry
Go through the door at
the top of the kitchen screen to enter the pantry. Someone will lock
Daphne and Fred in the room. Take the shield on the floor and then
take the screwdriver that is on the case to the right of the door.
Use the screwdriver on the door’s hinges to escape. It may take a
few tries. You will be back in the kitchen where there is now a splotch
of grease on the kitchen floor.
The Throne Room
Return to the Throne Room.
Sir Lacksalot is still where we left him before, so give him his shield.
In return he will give the gang a hand mirror. Return to the Royal
Gallery.
The Royal Gallery
Use your hand mirror on
the Magic Mirror to open a secret passage. Scooby will want a Scooby
Snack before entering the mirror, so make sure you have plenty on
hand. You are now in a security system studio. Click on the different
cameras to get different views of the castle. The fourth camera will
show you a wizard turning four skulls. Write down the order the skulls
are in from left to right (i.e. left, right, forward, left). This
order will vary from game to game. Now return to the Main Courtyard.
The Maze
From the Courtyard go left
to the barred door. Click on the shield above the door and then click
on the symbols in the correct order provided by the jester – dragon,
lion, deer, bush. Once the bars raise, go through the tunnel to find
the hedge maze. After the video ends, lead Shaggy/Scooby through the
maze. The maze is always different but if you just follow the path
you will eventually end up by a fountain where the rest of the gang
waits.
The Fountain
Take the hedge clippers
to the left of the fountain. Click on the fountain; there are four
tokens in the fountain, but there is also a piranha! Yoinks! Give
the half-eaten burger to the piranha to satisfy its hunger and then
safely take the tokens. Click on the balcony sign to the right and
after completing another small maze the gang will meet in front of
the castle balcony.
The Balcony
Try to climb up to the
balcony, but there are too many thorns to climb the trellis, if only
we could use to cut the thorns. Try the hedge clippers we found by
the fountain – seems they need to be sharpened. Another jester ball
will appear, take the ball and Chester will appear again and sing
a song about throne and how it can be moved. Click on the Employee
Entrance sign and the gang will slide down a ramp that deposits them
in the dining room. Go into the arena and sharpen the garden shears
on the grinder.
The Souvenir Shop
Return to the Main Courtyard
and then enter the Souvenir Shop. Use the four tokens to purchase
the water bottle. Now return to the kitchen and use the water bottle
on the splotch of grease on the floor.
The Armory
Return to the armory and
use the water bottle filled with grease on the knight at the top right
of the screen. The gang will now be able to move the knight and go
down the secret underground passage. Go forward once and then take
the rope that is above Velma’s head.
The Balcony
Now return to the balcony
by traveling through the maze again. Use the sharpened garden shears
on the thorns and climb up the wall. Once at the top of the balcony,
go right. Daphne and Fred will enter a bedroom. Take the dictionary
on the nightstand and then go through the open door at the top of
the room. You can now overlook the castle grounds. Click on the well
to the right. Return to the balcony.
The Wizard’s Laboratory
Click to the left of the
balcony. Shaggy/Scooby/Velma are in a laboratory. Put the dictionary
in the bookcase to the left to reveal a puzzle involving four skulls.
The skulls must be turned in a predetermined direction to open a secret
passage. Turn them in the order you saw in the fourth camera. A secret
passage will open and reveal the Wizard Amziani. After he finishes
his speech, click on him to learn how to cast spells. Now you must
click on the potion bottles Simon style (in the same order that the
Wizard clicks on them) in order to earn a clue from the Wizard.
Now click on the scrolls on the bed and after watching the video take
the scroll that has fallen on the floor. You now have a map of the
maze. Climb back down the balcony.
The Well
Use the map in your inventory
and click on the picture of the well. The gang is automatically transported
to whatever picture is clicked on the map, so they will now be at
the well.
Our friend the Jester will
appear one more time. Once he finishes his routine, click on the broken
rope on the well. Now use the rope from your inventory to go down
the well. Take the ruby in the center of the screen. Now return to
the Throne Room.
Unmasking the Culprit
Put the ruby in the throne.
After the chair moves, go down the secret passage it has revealed.
Give Scooby some snacks and then go forward to find the princess Bernice.
Now you must deduce who
is the villain based on the clues you have been provided. This will
change from game to game.
