AI was embedded everywhere, in cars, homes, clothing, and even inside some people’s bodies. Fearing the Singularity, humanity abruptly ended AI, causing a worldwide technological collapse.

Generations later, Vera, a federal homicide detective, is sent to the rural outpost of Nordsund to investigate a string of murders. She soon becomes caught in a hidden conflict over technology and religion.

Some want to awaken the Singularity, which they see as a last deity in a godless world, while others are vehement technophobes.
