In 1973, paranormal investigator Paul Prospero receives a fan letter from 12-year-old Ethan Carter. The letter leads him to Ethan’s hometown of Red Creek Valley, Wisconsin.

After arriving, Prospero learns that Ethan has gone missing. He begins to encounter unsettling paranormal phenomena.

He also finds evidence of recent violence in the small mining village.
