Sacred Ground is a sequel to Santa Fe Mysteries: The Elk Moon Murder and is similar in gameplay. The player has five days, with eight hours each day, to solve a case.
Randa Tasker, the wife of a local businessman, has been kidnapped. With the help of a PDA and assistant detective John Night Sky, the player must find clues and interview suspects and witnesses.
Because there is not enough time to interrogate everyone, choices must be made. The interface is point-and-click, with photograph stills for locations and Full Motion Video sequences.
The main screen shows a calendar for the days left, a sundial for the hours left today, and a PDA icon. The PDA contains icons for e-mail, suspects, and evidence.
