Sam & Max 302: The Tomb of Sammun-Mak is the second episode of the third Sam & Max season, Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse. After the events of the first episode, Sam and Max find an old cinema projector with four movie reels.
The reels show the adventures of Sameth and Maximus, their ancestors from the early 20th century, and the player takes their roles. The four scenarios involve uncovering the mysteries of the “Sphunx,” raiding a tomb for the mysterious toy box from the first episode, solving a theft on a train, and the ending.
The player can switch between the movies at any time, and this is also needed to solve some puzzles. Max’s psychic powers play an important part, with three abilities available: switching the reels, ventriloquism, and temporarily hiding into a can.
The gameplay is similar to earlier seasons, with walking through levels, collecting items, and using them to solve puzzles. Dialogues use a ring menu, and Sam’s movement is controlled by holding the left mouse button and dragging the mouse, or by using the keyboard. At release, individual episodes were not sold separately; the five episodes had to be bought as a whole.
