Perspective: Behind view

Rise of the Tomb Raider is the sequel to Tomb Raider (2014), set one year after the previous game. Lara Croft travels to the Siberian tundra in search of the lost city of Kitezh and the Divine Source, while her earlier experiences with the supernatural have been covered up by Trinity. A short early section takes place in Syria as a flashback, with Lara searching for a prophet’s tomb while being hunted by Trinity.

Much of the gameplay is similar to the previous game, but the setting changes to colder environments with ice playing an important role. The game world is made up of smaller open areas linked together, with multiple ways to explore them. Lara can use ice axes, ziplines, ropes and a grapple, and there are some linear sections with very few quick time events. Combat and stealth are both available, with more emphasis on combat in some situations.

Base camps return, allowing skill points, crafting, upgrades and fast travel. Lara uses a range of weapons, including the bow and arrow, which is also used for rope, fire and explosive arrows in puzzles. Areas contain objectives, challenges, relics, documents, murals and coin caches, and some are offered as side quests. The skill tree is split into Survivor, Hunter and Brawler.
