Maximo, a brave king, returns to his castle from a far off war and finds his kingdom falling apart, with sorceresses imprisoned throughout. His trusted advisor, Achille, has forced Queen Sophia to marry him.
Maximo tries to rescue her, but Achille proves too powerful and kills him with dark magic. Maximo then floats in the underworld, where Grim tells him that Achille is drilling into the underworld to harvest souls and fuel an undead army.
Grim makes a deal with Maximo: stop Achille’s plans, and he will be brought back to life. Maximo is sent back to earth, where his journey begins.
