The latest game looks to provide more of the same lots of sudden loud noises, screams and creatures jumping out at you with no warning. What I like about William R. Fishers games is that he doesn’t try to pretend they are something else. If you’ve ever been to those overpriced haunted houses on Halloween, then you have an idea of what his games are like. Beyond the Spirits Eye appears to continue this tradition and one of the first things I noticed is that this one seems to have improved in the graphics area and is oozing with atmosphere. There also seems to be quite a bit of animations in this one compared to the others.
From the Last Half of Darkness website: A new story is born from the shadows of darkness, revealing a twisted tale of terror where the souls of an entire town are governed by an ancient black jewel known only as the “Eye.” As dusk approaches, the vampiric society begin to rise from the crypt and a new dawn must wait patiently for the last half of darkness to pass beyond the spirit’s eye.

From WRF Studios comes the third installment to the Last Half of Darkness series – Beyond the Spirit’s Eye. While each game is complete with no relation to the others, they all share the creepy atmosphere of what I like to think of as classic funhouse horror. 
There were two things that were a bit odd to me though. I’m going to assume William is left-handed as the mouse icon points from the bottom left to upper right. While not a major issue, it felt uncomfortable using it. The other issue, which was a big deal, was that the speech audio was not in sync with the written text on the screen. It was a little difficult to make out what was being said as the voice was very scratchy with certain effects such as echo added to them. I was trying to read along, but since the audio wasn’t lining up it was as if you were trying to read a story while someone was talking to you. I really hope William can fix this in the final game as this one is definitely on my wish list.
You find your curiosity unleashing an overpowering interest in the rare gem and eventually taking you to a deserted village shrouded in mystery and horror. Locked away by secrets and time, you will soon uncover an evil that protects the jewel with its dark past and strange riddles of black magic. The village holds not only a home to the rare relic, but also a family of nocturnal hierarchy, breeding with each bite and inflicting their curse upon the remaining mortal townsfolk.
