of the really nice things about playing adventure games is that you can travel
the world and still never leave your home. Think of all of the money that you
can save on airplane tickets. Fear of flying becomes passe. Jet lag no longer
exists. And you can laugh with glee at your lack of motion sickness and the infernal
problem of missing luggage. See the exciting cities and countries of the world
and all from in front of your PC. Who could ask for more?
Adventure at
the Chateau d’Or is a new game in development from Karma Labs. It will transport
you to Paris in all of its splendor. Capital of France and the largest city in
the country, Paris is located in north-central France on the Seine River. This
jewel of a city is viewed by many as an intellectual and cultural center of the
world, as well as the commercial and industrial focus of France.
And
here you are, for the meager purchase price of a cardboard box and a plastic disk,
ready to stand as hero, detective, and problem solver par excellence for a princess
of another land. What an honor!
According to the story, the Princess is
heir to a fabulous treasure, but in order to secure that treasure she (and you)
must solve puzzles, unlock the secrets of the Chateau d’Or, search and find magic
artifacts, successfully convoke the scattered spirit of a lost Duke, and pursue
information about the fabulous City of Light and its heroes from many ages. And
when you have finished all of these deeds of valor, you must bring the Princess,
safe and secure, to her goal.
The
Duke is an enigmatic spirit whose body has never been found. He was an archaeologist,
scientist, eccentric, and philosopher who disappeared along with his entire team
when they were searching the Chateau for the same treasure that you must find.
That sounds terribly ominous. I am not sure tha you are up to this expedition
into the netherworlds. Perhaps the Chateau is haunted or cursed. Perhaps the Princess
has asked too much of you. Perhaps you are a dolt without a chance. But just maybe
you are the answer to her prayers and will end this adventure on a note of good
fortune and contentment.
