Mechanist is teaming up with DAO Games to publish the free-to-play, browser-based MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer On-line Role Playing Game), City of Steam. This unique MMORPG details an industrial age fantasy genre with impressive graphics for the browser platform. Leveraging the Unity 3D engine, City of Steam provides the same depth of gaming experience in a browser that rivals the full client-based triple-A online games. The game’s story is set in the rich world of Nexus, a once great civilization where mechanical steam-work blurs with magic. Hundreds of quests will lead players through ancient ruins, searching for archaic spoils while the players trying to find a place, for themselves and their families, in their new home.

“We chose to work with DAO Games to publish City of Steam in the MENA and Turkey regions as we believe in their fresh new vision.” Said David Lindsay, General Manager at Mechanist Games. “The company brings new and innovative perspectives into the EMEA Emerging markets. They have a clear high quality approach to offering free-to-play online gaming experience to the player communities in the two regions.”

City of Steam will be the first Unity 3D game published in Arabic and Turkish. This partnership with DAO Games will be a great opportunity to reach the Arabic and Turkish speaking markets where significant growth has been observed in both the number of online gamers as well as their spending in games. City of Steam’s regional launch schedule is synchronised with the Mechanist’s global launch plan. It will be the first time gamers in MENA and Turkey will be playing localised versions of an international high quality online game ahead of the title’s launch in Europe.

“City of Steam is a great title for DAO Games’ portfolio as we not only focus on hardcore online gamers but also want to give something new to players who love MMOs yet are constrained by time or place to enjoy their gaming passion.” Said Peter Kwisthout, CEO of DAO Games. “We partnered with Mechanist Games because we were excited to see a studio taking the Unity 3D technology envelope and really pushing it to the limit. It demonstrated the studio’s great vision and their capability in using technology to create an amazing experience. We plan to launch the game in Q1 2013 and will invite future players to register on our portal to join the Closed Beta Test soon.” Added Mr. Kwisthout.
