Nationwide Charity Event to send game-stuffed care packages to soldiers deployed to Afghanistan and injured soldiers recovering at Walter Reed military hospital is a runaway success
November 20, 2012 - Over Veterans' Day weekend, non-profit charity Operation Supply Drop ran a nationwide series of live events to raise donations to build video game stuffed care packages for soldiers deployed to Afghanistan and injured soldiers recovering at Walter Reed military hospital. The final numbers are in, and the first annual "8-Bit Salute to Veterans" is a runaway success, having raised:
CASH DONATIONS: $9,152.11
PHYSICAL DONATIONS: $48,601.72
GRAND TOTAL: $57,753.83
Over the run-up to the actual 8-Bit Salute series of nationwide live events in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago, Dallas and New York City, we got several write ups across a variety of publications, but the real surprise entry
came from Operation Supply Drop landing on the front page of none other than NBCNews.com on Veterans Day!
F or more details about the 8-Bit Salute to Veterans event, the care packages going to Afghanistan and Walter Reed military hospital as well as the packages inventories, head over to Front Towards Gamer.com or Operation Supply Drop.org for full details!
Missed out on the fun, but want to help the troops out over the holidays? Fret not! Operation Supply Drop continues to spread "tidings of comfort and joy" to troops deployed forward throughout the end of the year with their second annual "Santa Actual" care package drive (building a $2000 care package a week through Christmas, to give our troops a litle taste of the excitement of opening up presents through the Holiday season!), which will be announced shortly!
Happy Holidays everyone and have a great Episode 5 Walking Dead-giving! I mean, erm....Thanksgiving!
