Jane Jensen Announces Moebius - a Spiritual Successor to Gabriel Knight *Updated*
Early backer's vote for first adventure game to be developed won 61% of vote.
Two weeks after gamer designer Jane Jensen launched Pinkerton Road Studio, their first adventure title has been decided after the project's backers voted 61% in favor for it: Moebius. A kickstarter has been running to raise funds for Moebius's development, and at the time of this writing, is more than half way to the $300,000 goal: LINK
Backers who join in on the fundraising will receive awards, including behind-the-scenes involvement in development, downloadable and physical copies of Pinkerton Road's games, and "design bibles" from Jane's Gabriel Knight days. Jane Jensen has also announced that if enough funds are raised, Pinkerton Road will pursue a second adventure game this year as well.
Moebius is developed as a metaphysical sci-fi thriller in the vein of Fringe, Jane's novel Dante's Equation, and Gabriel Knight. Antiquities dealer Malachi Rector hunts down artifacts all over the world, compiling dossiers on their history. He is also known for having the knack to sense the "soul" of an object. After his store is destroyed in a fire, Rector is hired by millionaire Amber Dexter to investigate a series of events and document them. While investigating the death of a young woman in Venice, Rector discovers that her life has a great hidden significance, and that Amber Dexter is playing with the fabric of life, possibly even Rector's.
Rector must figure out who is doing what -- and whether their intentions are for good or ill -- before he can decide whether to play his pre-scripted role or try to change the outcome.
Moebius will be played in the classic point-and-click style, as a third-person adventure game with a 2D graphic novel look. The game will come with two modes, Casual Adventure and True Adventure. Casual Adventure will contain hints, hotspot revealer, and a simplified interface. Those that want a challenge can choose True Adventure, played more along the lines of past adventure games such as Gabriel Knight and Gray Matter.
Moebius is planned to release in March of 2013, provided that Pinkerton's Kickstarter project reaches its $300,000 funding goal.
