Untold Entertainment Announces Graphic Adventure - Word Puzzle Game Spellirium

Takes place in a time where reading and writing are outlawed.

PRESS RELEASE posted on 27 FEB 2012 5:37pm by James Dee

Untold Entertainment Inc. announced today the upcoming release of their graphic adventure/word puzzle mash-up game Spellirium. Done in the spirit of Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords and Bookworm Adventures with parts of LOOM and Boggle, Spellirium brings players to the post-apocalyptic world called The Land.

The Land is not a pleasant place, where present-day civilization has been buried beneath a pile of dirt and reading and writing has been outlawed. Players enter into the story with Todd, an initiate in the Runekeepers, a secret society in The Land. Todd gathers together a crew of companions to investigate the death of his monastic brother, bringing Todd and company across the countryside, which is dotted with salvage wreckage from "the Once", giving the game a "trashpunk" look.

Spellirium combines grid-based word puzzle games with story-based puzzles for challenging gameplay. An example would be to shear a sheep, the player would have to spell words like "CUT, TRIM, SHEAR, and CLIP". Players will also spell words in directions to move through a maze and to use green tiles to defeat a green monster. All the words that the player spells are stored in an interactive dictionary, creating a list of 50,000 collectibles, which can then be used as currency to buy items or make power-ups.

Spellirium is set to release as a downloadable game for the PC or Mac. Currently it is in alpha testing and is aiming for a 2012 release. For more information, visit the Spellirium Facebook page or the official website (which contains the designer diary) here: LINK
