Square Enix released today a series of screenshots for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII that features Oerba Dia Vanille. Vanille has opened her eyes from a very long sleep and realizes she has a gift - she can hear the voices of the dead. Now dubbed "The Saint", Vanille is spending her days under the Order's protection in Luxerion.
Additionally, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will have a new online feature called "Outerworld service", where players can submit snapshots, messages, and battle scores via social media to share their gaming experiences with other players.
So what is Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII about? Set 500 years after Final Fantasy XIII-2, Lightning (who was a protagonist in Final Fantasy XIII and a key character in XIII-2) awakens from self-imposed hibernation. While getting beauty sleep is good and all, Lightning has woken up just thirteen days from the end of the world. She is now tasked with saving the people of the dying world, an adventure that will have her running into characters from the previous two Final Fantasy games, as well as new characters and factions that will either support or oppose her mission.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII looks to wrap up the story of both Lightning and the XIII universe, and will be bringing new content such as more action-based combat system and an open world that players can freely explore.
The game is expected to release in Japan November 21, 2013, with a North American release on February 11, 2014. It will be available for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
