Rumors and gossip are abound on the Internet after Apple has confirmed a special event for October 22, 2013, via an invitation sent out containing "We still have a lot to cover." on it.
The event is expected to take place at The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, where Apple may reveal two new iterations of their popular tablets. Rumors say that the new iPad will feature a design similar to the iPad Mini, being lighter and thinner, with a film-based touch layer instead of the traditional glass-based one used in older models. The new iPad would also be theoretically be powered by the iPhone 5S's A7 chip or a more powerful A7X SOC.
For the new iPad Mini, it is rumored that the smaller tablet will get a Retina display that is present in the iPad 2 and 3, with its design staying the same.
It is also unknown if the Touch ID fingerprint scanner that made its debut on the iPhone 5S will be making an appearance on the new iPads.
