I find it hard to believe such in-depth conversations over the JA + sign.  But the explanation is very simple:

it gives us room to explore other adventure related areas.

Let me put it this way - if a gamer either has no interest in an adventure game or maybe does not even know what an adventure game is - then never would that gamer visit Just Adventure, Adventure Gamers, Quandary or any of the other fine adventure sites.

BUT - if JA runs a review of  - to use your example - Deus Ex -  and this gamer stumbles across the JA review during his google search, well then this person might then somehow become interested in the adventure genre.  And if you think this is far-fetched, then believe me that I receive at least one email a week from someone who never heard of JA until he found a review for (insert name of hot new cross genre game here).  We do convert them slowly.

As for our many action/adventure reviews.  Plans were afoot last year to open a new sister site called Just Action/Adventure.  As many of you are aware my year long illness held up the plan.  But we do still plan to open the new site sometime during 2003.  We also plan to add a huge text adventure section to JA that will also feature a history of all of the Infocom games.

As for independent developers, well I can not even believe that someone even inferred that we don't do enoug for them considering we were the first to review Cracking the Conspiracy, Passages and a few more, but we do have plans to open a section devoted entirely to independent develoopers.

But these things take time and we are mostly a volunteer staff.   But you know even though we are a genre-specific site and even though we are unpaid, if you doubt how popular we are then just do a search in the Alexa Web Search  - you will be pleasantly surprised.

I was pleasantly surprised the day I found this site some time ago - I've been coming back ever since

Text adventures - wahey!

And that's my final word on the matter.

I welcome reviews of games that are adventure related even though they are not of the "purist and hard core" criteria. I just want to enjoy a game, and I am open to variations that deliver an enjoyable experience even though it might deviate somewhat from the adventure game "norm". Perhaps I didn't always think this way, but ever since I played the Quest For Glory series I realize that I have no problem expanding my horizions if the game is good enough. And perhaps I would never have played that series if a fervent adventurist had not recommended it. So, you see, you never know what you just might find. If you keep an open mind.

I've been following JA and Randy in particular since the first days, and I have nothing but good words to say about them. The + part did not annoy me a bit, and it helped me purchase Outcast although I used to be passionately against hybrids. It proved to be one of my all-time favorites.

Do you like classic adventure games? Check out Diamonds in the Rough!

If you're ever over at a heavy metal web board, the same basic premise stands if you start a discussion about, say, Loreena McKennitt. Good taste knows no genre boundries

Are you implying that heavy metal is good taste?
