Why? Because it was so obvious you could smell the plot a mile away. It was a one note Johnny with nothing really worth exploring. No depth. Totally shallow film. One dimensional. Putrid.
Not to mention the acting was forced, the directing was plodding, and the whole premise of the film was so obvious from the first 5 minutes that a 6 year old could have told you the ending.
Tripe, total tripe.

I think there is a difference between movies that were released in theaters and low budget, B movies.......
I'd have to say the most recent Omega Code........there was just nothing that happened in that movie...........
And despite what everyone says......Spice World is awesome...........

I also remember walking out on Gremlins. Too much gore for me. I hate horror movies. I was too young to drive at the time and remember sitting outside for about an hour waiting for my mom to pick me up....beat the heck out of sitting through that crap....

This is not a vote for CoF (Hate it), but point of order the worst film ever to win Best Picture is undoubtubly Titanic

Nope. It's The English Patient.

I'm probably alone in that one, but it was possibly the most humdrum thing Spielberg ever created. It was yawnsome, and I've sat through and enjoyed Eyes Wide Shut. Well Minority Report wasn't a very good movie, mainly because of the plot holes and the ending (which was ridiculously predictable. and I think the ending is the most important part of a movie). But the technological advances portrayed in the movie were very good I think. Like the personalized commercials and the cars.
And despite what everyone says......Spice World is awesome........... I don't think any movie has annoyed me as much as Spice World. Because if there was ever a movie that should have been very very bad, it is this one. But it was actually quite good. And funny. Except for the musical numbers (really can't stand their music) I enjoyed it. I was in shock for several days afterwards.

Not great, but I still prefer it over the original (which had some increadibly long and boring scenes where absolutely nothing happened). I can obviously understand how it's not to everyones taste.
My vote for worst movie to win Oscar for best movie goes to ...... The Sting (1973).
Feel free to ignore this post.

Why are people travelling in cars when there are floaty ship things, a home-based travel pod system and backpacks? All sorts of holes. It was just really poorly thought out.

LOL - I remember Gremlins. I too saw it at the theatre. But unlike you, I could drive Loved the blender, when the G got all chopped up.
My wife had an old beat up red AMC Gremlin back when we frist started dating. It was aptly named... that car was a real piece of c$ap.
But it goes to show you one person's trash is another's treasure.
Just as LadyK estral likes Chariots of Fire (and Lady K, it's the production and direction and script of COF I don't like, not the story...), I like Gremlins., the movie. Odd - my third date with my wife was to COF, and she drove a Gremlin
Guess that's what makes life interesting.

I got trapped into watching it on a plane (which is probably the best place to see a stinker as it tends to be hard to take in a good one properly).

As Wolfboy stated at the start, commercial successes are only judged failures by their hype or the fact they simply don't appeal. Calling films like 2001, Chariots of Fire, Minority Report, Titanic, The English Patient et al "the worst" is very closed minded, especially seeing all of the above are films loved by a large number of people.
A few thoughts:
Miracle Mile. I admit hated this film too. So bad I was inclined to review it on IMDB to warn the foolish video buyer, something I rarely do. It's utterly stupid and at not at all profound.
Aliens vs Predator I enjoyed thoroughly. Frankly I was expecting a low concept monster fight with great visuals, rubbish script, disposable actors and not much else. Which is what I got. The inner 12 year old was leaping for joy at the Alien Queen and cool-as-f*ck predators. Take a film like this seriously at your peril.
Titanic. Amazing how one of the most successful films of all time is now so roundly despised, just because it did such phenomenal business (and won a shed of oscars...like that means anything). I don't think a great deal of it now, but sitting in that cinema watching that huge ship sinking with my heart in my mouth was totally brilliant film-making.
Juji - The worst thing Spielburg ever created was The Lost World. On this topic there can be no debate. You sure about that? When was the last time you watched 1941? Or Always? or Hook? or even The Terminal for that matter. 'Terminal' is right. :
Come on folks, turn on your televisions at 3am and watch some truly bad films... films that could never have gotten a cinema release... films from the seventies and eighties without an ounce of taste or talent....
They are out there!

Jaws was awful? >
No one is going to defend the dubious shark effects in the film... but really.... it's well written, well directed (back when Steve had some balls), and well acted.
Watch Orca: Killer Whale, or Shark Attack 1, 2 or 3, or even Jaws 4: The Revenge for that matter.
