The main reason why I don't participate on the forum very often is that, whatever is the topic, it's always flooded by the same members, usually with long, very long answers.
I don't want to be rude but some (not all !) of the members seem to be in love with their own person and don't even write about the topic of the thread. In my opinion, THAT is rude... >
I keep reading the forum though.
Got to go, I have a game to finish !

I want to apologise if I've behaved non professionally in these forums, and I will try to not perpetuate one-to-one discussions in the future. I hope that more people would do the same so that the rest of the forum members will get the chance to state their opinion.

In my opinion, THAT is rude... >: Baron, this happens because the forum has grown into being more personal to some members who now know each other... so it's normal to have some fun, some inside jokes, some dimi-michal flaming etc! it's not the typical impersonal forum anymore where someone asks smth and gets some formal answers... of course most of the topics are discussed properly (unless they're started by Belinda - those tend to stray a bit )... if you got smth to say on any topic you should say it and if someone has to comment he/she will... but it's true that some posts are incredibly long

No problem with that.
It's just that I think it's one of the reason why there is not many new member who participate on the Forum.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I'm just starting to post on this board. I've been kicked off another board for some other matters and I would like to make a fresh start here.  on't worry! I won't start any fights here! Promise! However, who is this Belinda that you're talking about? She seems like a troublemaker to me!

Status : Online | I agree with Baron_Von_Ungern. The forum now consists of a set of regulars who post all the time, in great length, and seem very eager to have the last word - in most threads the same person posts multiple times, and often very agressively, I might add! I guess they want us all to think they are really smart, and really know what they are talking about! Personally, if it was me, I'd get rid of the stars. I found myself working to get my three stars, and this is something I don't usually do. Fortunately, I learned my lesson, and many people now outpost me, thank goodness. Those stars are a bad thing.
When I post, I try to look for the threads where someone is trying to draw people in, and seems interested in their responses. I try not to encourage some people by never ever responding to them, but sometimes you have to, if you want to participate. I enjoyed it when Harriet started the "ball rolling" by posting good, interesting topics we could all participate it, Harriet is great! Monkeybone also does really good topic starters, both kind and funny. Randy adds a nice influence to the board, when he posts. There are other kind posters, who seem interested in what people have to say, I'm just mentioning a few here.
There are ways to make a board very welcoming to all members, but it requires very active forum monitoring. You have to actively encourage a different mind set on the part of forum participants, your presence has to be on the board all the time, to set the right tone. The moderators I see doing this (on other boards) are very friendly, but they get their point across. You also have to be willing to delete both posts and whole threads. I don't think that is the approach of this board (it's more hands off), but we'll see. I thought perhaps that the tenor of this board was because many of the participants are pretty young (I'm, charitably, middle aged), but I go to another board where the people are quite young, and I don't see this kind of behavior.
Maybe I'll start posting a few topic starters again. You may remember that on my topic starters there was less flaming and more people participated.
Oh sorry Baron - this was a long post!
Regards, mszv

I tend to compare discussion boards to real life situations (the office, school, church social groups, etc.) where the outspoken ones tend to get to know each other and relationships grow, while the "wall flowers" tend to just hang out, observing. I am usually a wall flower myself at parties and social gatherings. But I find it easier to speak up on discussion boards because it's more annonymous. But I think the outspoken people LOVE to hear from the quite ones - they usually really have something to say. So come on quite people, let's hear from you ! !

| Deleted User | Regarding forum wall flowers:
In general, I am one. I enjoy posting news items that you might enjoy or that might start an interesting discussion. But most of the time I keep my mouth shut. I find some of the members of most boards too hotly opinionated for my taste and too eager to argue. I am not interested in having someone/anyone jump down my throat because I don't agree with them or because they don't like what I have to say. A flame war is a waste of time to me and I think that they often cause people to feel unnecessarily hurt, annoyed or downright angry. Disagreement is fine but I think that the way it is done is important. But this is just me - and you must do as you want to do - within reason.
I will continue to post news items and questions that I think you will enjoy and I will continue to post short answers to many threads and longer ones on the occasion when I feel compelled to do it. And this is one of those times that I feel compelled.

I just like to read the threads and if someone has already articulated what I think about the topic, I usually just remain silent and just lurk. But every now and then I pipe up; if only to ditto someone. Then I usually read my post and say "Boy...that was dumb...didn't contribute at all did it?". I'll probably do the same with this post....

By the time you read through it all, you can't remember what the original topic was. At that point, after the thread has veered so far off topic, it wouldn't make sense to post a response.

Hey, cheers!
Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been posting lately, as I'm on my hols! Suffice to say, that theres no sign of Runaway here in Italy...
Anyhow, just gotta poke my nose in to this one for a quick reply. I'd like to say that this forum is still relatively young (yup, despite even MichalN's 750+ posts!) and we can be a little dogmatic. It seems that a lot of us on here are old skool adventure gamers, and I can understand if that could be a little scary for a newbie.
That said, I've only been posting for around two weeks now, and already I'm considered a local! I get prolific on forums when I work at home, I guess - I was last addicted to the forums at AICN, but there were too many flamers there for my liking and besides, adventure gaming is really where its at for me!
Anyhoo, I bid you all farewell until my next post - I'll be a little out of touch until the new year...
Take it easy, y'all! Perhaps I'll start a new topic soon... heh heh...

on the subject now, really i don't understand why you feel that you can't participate in a discussion... why do you feel that whenever some ppl that have more posts speak you cannot take place... this is childish if you want my opinion... it's like being the new kid at school being afraid to talk to the older kids that know eachother... and don't even try to compare this forum to others and talk about moderation and ranks... there are other forums where ppl kill each other (well, not literally) to get a new rank (and there are a lot, not only 5) and where flames start every 3rd post... this is a very civilized and packed with intelligent ppl forum... noone will flame you cause you "interupted their chat" if you respond to a topic... if there's some off-subject talk going on, just quote the older posts you want to quote and say what you want to say.. can't see where the problem is

Like these gods. They're getting a bit too uppity in my opinion. A slashing cut of 1000 posts from their count will make them more 'umble.

Thank you Aya.......I don't come to these forums to make trouble. Anyone that have read my earlier posts, should know. Gee.....I didn't think that one topic I put up would stir up all this.....look how many newer topics came on.....and did you see how many people read that 'one' topic? By the way, if you didn't read my earlier posts, I received a very nice email today from the editor in chief from AG.
Well guys.....(these '10' posters that know one another and post alot), I guess we just started our own little 'click'.......now didn't we?

Some of these threads take on a life of their own and you have to read 60+ responses to follow the discussion so as not to be repetitive if you choose to reply. Many people probably just select a few topics of interest and skim the posts without taking the time to reply. I just think that's the way it is in most forums.
