I also liked the puzzle and the action at the end of The Omega Stone, but I did find the talking a bit anti-climatic. I found myself thinking of a Mark Twain quote, "It's a terrible fate to be talked to death."
"Where is the fountain that throws up these flowers in a ceaseless outbreak of ecstasy?"

I, actually, didn't realize the game was over. I thought, I did something wrong, so he died... After 2 more tries and a glimpse at the walkthrough, i realized the game was over. To tell you the truth, I expected a powerfull finale from a game like this, and all I got, was a reran of an introduction...
Do go on! I always yawn, when I'm fascinated!

Talking about the ending of REAH, Ray said :
The weak ending is so weak that you want to interrupt it and uninstall the game before it's even over.
LOL. That's one of the funniest things about gaming I have ever read. I envision Ray desperately trying to eject the cd from the tray right in the middle of the ending speech given by 'the man in the blue robe'.
Too funny! [smiley=laughing.gif]

They use to make a lot of movies where the star failed at doing what he started out to do and I used to feel like why did I waist my time watching this. When a game ends like this I get that same feeling so I hope they don't make too many more like this. I have to admit, though that I liked the game up to the ending. It's nice to have multipal endings, at least the player has some chance for getting the ending he likes.

It was wacky and whimsical and didn't involve sealing LeChuck in some sort of voodoo implement, or blowing him up with some sort of voodoo implement, or resorting to some other pirate-voodoo cliche. As for some recent games whose endings I was less thrilled with, Black Mirror and Syberia 2 are definatly at the top of the list. For a "thinking" genre, those were some pretty bad, gaping plot hole, abrupt halt endings.

Why? Because it's probably gonna be an unresolved cliffhanger, niggling at the back of my mind for the rest of my life!!!

Black Dahlia + Black Mirror = you play hours of the game just to kill yourself?! Gabriel Knight 3 (how could they leave the ending unresolved?!) Jack The Ripper, *SPOILER*(just to avoid any problems) I didn't like that the killer wasn't anyone that you had interacted with and he just got away.

Myst can say it had a bad ending because never been arsed to finish it- Although side note really enjoying Myst IV strangely enough
So
Bad Endings:
Black Mirror - Great Game bad ending. Syberia - It's a we ran out of money ending. Syberia 2 - Now it actually has an ending and it was cack. Midnight Nowhere - Huh? Phantasmagoria - The one where she "has to" kill her husband :
Dear Diary, My teenage angst bullsh*t now has a bodycount.

I thought it was a great cliffhanger, definitely ranking up there with best of them (my list of best cliffhangers include "oes she know that her daughter is still alive?" from Kill Bill, and the 50th episode of Fullmetal Alchemist.)
Meanwhile, I'm glad that nobody has mentioned Loom yet. One of my favourate endings, I'd have to get out my shotgun if anyone did

SYBERIA 1 SPOILER The game is about Kate Walker, and how she changes from strict lawyer to kind adventurous Kate. The ending shows that she has a change to return home, but desided against it for the sake of adventure.

Because she didn't return, the game feels terribly unfinished, which is no wonder because that's why there's Syberia 2. It's a lot like splitting a movie in half - you'll have really hard time convincing anyone that the first half had a "good ending". If it did, then why was the second half needed?

Ooop!Was that me .Sorry.

SYBERIA SPOILERS, again Her objective was to find Hans, that was the whole point of the game. To find out why Hans was gone, and where he was. Which, in the end, she found out. That was the idea. To me it was a complete ending; it showed how the adventures can change one from a lawyer to an adventurer. The phonecalls she cuts of earlier and earlier, the way she deals with things, heavens, even her font colour changes. That's the whole point of Syberia - or at least, it was to me. I found the ending very good, and finding it unfinished probably meant you were focussing on the whole aspect of the story, or have a problem with open endings. .. That's how I see it, anyhow

Well, count me in the 'Loved Syberia's ending' group. The story was based around the character - hence the inclusion of the phone in the first place. The storyline was a paralell to her own discoveries - Syberia never needed to exist, it was a metaphor. Just as the mammoths were a metaphor to Hans.
I mean, the train itself was a metaphor for the ongoing journey, a passage of discovery. Hans became the catalyst for Kate's development.
Think about it - from the beggining of the story, she's trudging through a job she's lost her enthusiasm for, she's lugging around a dead relationship. Everything's been holding her back. She learns about Hans, and about how he persued his dreams - to see Mammoths. She's inspired by this, and tries her best to find him. So she goes on a journey. A pilgramage of self-discovery. She learns about Syberia, a fantastical land that slowly becomes her destination, a paradise to seek for. Eventually, through many trials, she finally finds Hans, and is left with a choice - to follow him in persuit of their dreams, or hold onto her past. She makes the biggest choice of her life, and now has her whole life ahead of her to persue her dreams.
How can that be a dissapointing ending? ???

I have to add my nod to Wolfboy's and Parrot's... Syberia was a meaningful ending that still left open the opportunity for further adventure... but that was kind of the point of Kate's journey, right? To become more open to adventure? So in the end, the conclusion was indeed a "choice" to go forth and explore!
