Status : Online | Did you try running in compatibility mode? Create a shortcut to the game if you don't already have one. Right click on the shortcut and select properties. There should be a compatibility tab. Select it and you will see at the bottom a dropdown menu with different operating systems select one (win98 or 95) and try running the game.

I belive it has something to do with the game not working on new computers.

Status : Online | Just a hunch, Can you disable the sound anywhere, or install the game without sound? Not just turn down the volume, disable it completely. The biggest problem with old games and new computers is the sound compatibility.

When I install Discworld 2, in the last part it checks for DirectX and then a window pops up that says " An unkown error occured". Is it possible to download an older Direct X and would that work?

I can install the game but I wont start. Those anyone have the same problem or better, have a solution to my problem? ???
Any one have a solution for this? Same thing happens to me - I'm running Windows XP also. Have tried the various compatibility modes without success. Every time you start the game it just bounces back to the desktop. I was able to play and finish Discworld I just fine. But now with Discworld II I have the same symptoms as mentioned in this thread.
I'd REALLY like to be able to play this game...I've googled for fixes and such but have been unable to locate a solution. Anyone who can help I'll be forever in your debt

Thank you for the reply. Installed the VDMSound utility and then tried installing the DOS version of Discworld II using the install.bat from CD but it still errors out with "Unsupported SVGA chip set".
I've got an NVidia GeForce2 MX400 with 32 meg of RAM with recent Detonator drivers installed.
