I'm looking for some difficult but 'fair' adventuregames. Riven was perfect in my opinion... Not just that simple like Amerzone and Syberia, both great adventuregames in storyline and graphics, but not difficult enough.

Any suggestions? (Myst 3 is too easy also...)

That reminds me of Discworld.
It's difficult...and it isn't fair...  :'(

Ron - Myst 3 is not easy....

I give it an 7,5 of difficult level ......homogeniously distribuited through the entine game.
I solved it in 5 months "without" walkthroughs.
M3 is very funny to play........go and buy it.

Yes, Exile is easiest than Riven.

But I have to say that I found Exile much too easy. I completed it within a few weeks, and came away dissapointed with it's shortness.

I really enjoyed it, though, and did get stumped at the bit where you have to raise the elevator to reach the cogs and gears. Yup, the easy puzzle. Perhaps it was so easy it went round in a loop and became hard?!

I also found the technological puzzle with the flying ship rather difficult, but got there in the end...

Roll on the next one, though! Heard it's in the making, can't wait...

Two of the most difficult adventures ever:
Maupiti Island
Zak McKracken And The Alien Mindbenders

I consider both of them have logical puzzles (fair, if you prefer).

SOME SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T PLAYED RIVEN YET. (But those aren't to be found on this forum anyways...)

ah come on! I played it myself. (But for some reason my -dutch- version had an error on the last disc... So i'm looking for an english version now...) Myst3 is fun, but it's nothing compared to riven. Riven is extremely difficult - but fair! - because you have immediately access to almost every location on the islands. I loved the way in which everything comes together at the end in 'Riven'.  I have referred to an hint-file twice; both 'pixel-hunting'-problems which i hate.

Myst, and also Myst 3 are so much easier because of the different books you play every time. I finished all but the last chapter of Myst3 (because of that bad cd...) in about one and a half week.. No, i didn't use any walkthrough.

By the way.. Other games are easy too, a lot of times because they use 'interactive areas' in which the cursor changes. (Syberia, Amerzone, Atlantis).

I hope some people can give me some more ideas. (By the way, i'm glad to be stuck in 'Timelapse' right now!)

Deleted UserI hear you Ron - that whole linked puzzle thing was fantastic - the whole group of islands and the "5" theme, the fact that everything touches everything else, was a masterstroke of games design...

And people say it was just a bunch of pictures linked together! Bet they didn't finish it - if they did they're hypocrits...

Discworld Noir was difficult but fair. I feel the same way about Atlantis II. Quite different games, both really good.

Overall I think the Lucasarts games have a really nice balance. I'm talking about the Indygames (apart from the last one but, hey, there's always a God-mode), Loom (if you can still find it), The Dig, Grim Fandango etc.).

To me, Riven still be the most immersive and climatic adventure produced even today.
Graphically stunning, superb sound and soundtrack.....unforgeteble experience.

Designing puzzles that don't fit into a storyline is a fairly easy task...

...and don't call me a hypocrite, you hear me!

Yes, try as I might I just can't manage to forget it.  I did finish the game (and the same goes for Myst) - but I never enjoyed the still photo presentation.

What?

I think Riven is a brilliant game. It absolutely exceeds any other similar games
I love the fact that many say that Riven is eye candy alone and utterly unengaging because they are so entirely mistaken. PC Gamer's 40% still makes me chuckle.
I think the big problem is that Riven was considered an adventure game. This simultaneously spawned genre-corrupting clones and angered adventure gaming purists who insist on storylines

I should think that if adventure games are novels, Riven is a very large and very beautiful coffee table book with lingering threads that spin themselves beautifully for those who care to look.

Hey Ron......maybe you should try a 'real-life' adventure, if the pc games are too easy for you. We had one right here in the off topic forum....The Aya & Michal saga...... now.....that's what you call 'adventure'....heh

The two negative points in M3 (for me)are:
Non-hard puzzlers and the ingenuous roller coaster in Amateria (that giant pinbal, is, at least, few inspirated)
