Any thoughts on the upcoming movie by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the guys behind the satirical animated series South Park? It's called Team America - World Police, and it's making the White House fume with anger.

Inspired by Thunderbirds, this is a movie made with string puppets, resembling many famous people. It's a satire about the war on terrorism etc, and it's strategically planned to release two weeks before the Presidential election. It doesn't only have to do with ridiculing Bush's politics, (they claim he isn't even in it) but there's no doubt what these guys thinks of him.

Anyway, there's a trailer available, and by the looks of it this could be a hilarious movie. One thing's for sure anyway: These guys loves to provoke! Making a comedy about terrorism isn't exactly popular with everyone.

Let's see if they can manage to do it without falling for the same trouble they had in South Park - using the same jokes over and over and over again. If they can actually come up with some new material, I should enjoy it.

Looks fun to me. Anyway I loved Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe Ninety and the other one - forget what it was called now but it was under the sea on a submarine from memory. We used to watch them all with the kids years and years ago, our son even had a Captain Scarlet handkerchief that he cherished till he was grown-up! Thanks for posting the link Petter - hope it'll be released in Australia.

Matt and Trey are very right wing.  Watch the show, they make fun of gore, clinton, hippies, barbara streisand, saddam, kim jung il, etc.

They do make fun of some republican policies, actually the same ones i disagree with, but if you watch the show, they truly satire the idiots in society.  They said America shouldn't have to be world police.  That's the UN's job.  But they've dropped the ball more times than the dream team in athens.  They said something along those lines, I can't remember exact phrasing.  THis is a pro-war movie.  watch it thoughu

OOOh great first post.

Must have taken you hours to formulate that well worded argument.

Look forward to more inciteful comments of a similar nature

So in other words this is a piece of right-wing propaganda. Thanks, but I'll pass.

I highly doubt it.  In South Park they take the p**s out of everyone and everything, and whichever end of the political spectrum their targets are is irrelevant.

they make fun of gore, clinton, hippies, barbara streisand, saddam, kim jung il, etc.

They also make fun of religion, gun-nuts, rednecks, moral outrage at the media, censorship, and have stuff like the scene in South Park the movie where the US army decides all its black recruits should be in the front line as human shields.

Hardly the actions of 'very right wing' writers.

Just this idiot's opinion.

I think they are equal opportunity provokers too - the episodes where they make fun of the Catholic church were astounding....and remember Starvin Marvin from Ethiopia?
I'm sure I'll see this movie - probably on DVD though

Yes, I've watched the trailer last week and although I saw those puppet strings which means it'll be like a puppet show who but who cares cause it's damn funny. I know it won't be released in Malaysian cinema but the DVDs will come in (like other banned cinema movies), strange enough.

It does remind me of Thunderbirds. Used to watch that show all the time when I was a kid.

Sure enough Trey Parker and Matt Stone make fun of everything (almost everything they can think of??) [smiley=devil_smiley_grintail.gif]. MUaAHahAhaHAa
