This is Roberta Williams. I'm sure you all will be surprised to see me here, but I just wanted to take the time to thank everyone who have kept the Adventure game genre as one of the strongest and most anticipated genres of all! Also, it seems to me that the fans of adventure games are the most LOYAL and DEDICATED of all computer gamers! I commend you all. I, as you, would love to see our adventure games continue and to keep getting better and better. You never know, 'some day' I may decide to jump back in and see what I could do to shake up things up a little bit in this genre
Keep it up, guys! You all are the best

Adventure games will never go down. There's a huge target audience, and I wish the comapnies would realize that.
If only the managers would disappear
.

Anyway ... thanks!

Thanks for stopping by Roberta, I'm sure if anyone could shake up the genre again, it would be you or Al or Jane.

If nothing else, adventure fans everywhere owe you a lot - if not for yours and Ken's efforts and dedication, neither the Just Adventure site nor this forum would probably exist.

Wow first Al Lowe and now Roberta Williams!  I sure picked a good day to log into the forum.  Just fantastic to hear from you.  Thanks for so many hours of fun and imagination.  If you ever do get back in the game, we'll be waiting with open arms.

Sierra got it all started for me:  Phantasmagoria 1 & 2, Shivers 1 & 2,  Gabriel Knight 1,2 and 3, Lighthouse, RAMA, Lost in Time, Torins Passage--then I had to branch out...I miss you guys.  Shelly

Yeah. For me it was Sierra, too. Quest for Glory rules ... and so do most Sierra games. I wish they worked on my new computer
.
That reminds me, I have to write an article about KQ8 and its innovative new 'physical' puzzles (climbing up walls etc) and other neat features.

Hei Roberta,

First of all I as most people in here am grateful to what you have done in your life. If it wasn't for people like you I would probably never write these lines right now. But why don't u jump back to the gaming industry?

Why did you loose hope for adventure games? I think it is a great time to do so. Syberia 2, Post Mortem, Scherlock Holmes, and many more games are coming next year. We (the adventure community) need all the help we can get, we have to use all our weapons to do the comeback.

An adventure game from you and one from al lowe also would definitely not be good for my financial state
but it would be great for the adventure genre. It would be the absolute come back year if you did so. I know my opinion probably does not count but you are one of our best hopes.

I was wandering also....why don't u, Al Lowe, Ken Williams and Jane Jensen, start a new company from scratch. I am SURE it would be a success, four minds like these cannot do anything else than succeed. That's just a crazy idea, but maye it can work out. It is usually crazy ideas that becomes big successes.

That's all, thanks again for a lot of hours of entertainment (I loved phantasmagoria and king's quest).

Deleted UserHello Roberta,

It is wonderful to see you here.  Your name is legend in the game industry - but you already know that.  I WISH that we could turn back the clock to when Sierra stood for your kind of quality and fun.

Personally, I would love to see you "jump back in".  You are sorely missed.

Well, this is just great. I used to frequent the Adventure Games forum on Compuserve several years ago (forget the exact name of the forum), circa 1995-97. It was very active and if I remember correctly, Roberta was on there from time to time.

I've always wondered why there wasn't something comparable on the internet; perhaps, this will be it. Anyway, I hope this forum thrives- I've come back to adventure gaming in a big way. In fact, I've been buying up most of the popular games over the last few years in anticipation of getting back into Adventuring, so I have about 35 of them at the moment.

Got stuck in the Mechanical Age of Myst in 1995 and have finally just completed Myst. Now am working on Myst Riven, Myst Exile and Riddle of the Sphinx. Hope to be active on the forum.

The future ain't what it used to be!

Well, this is a thrill.
For me, it was Laura Bow The Colonels Bequest.
For 12 years I have tried to match that thrill, and while there are many good games...its never like your first.

I think its possible that an interactive fiction  or adventure game will be the next Sims for the masses. The casual gamer is out there...waiting to be enticed!

Deleted UserRoberta,

Was that Ken producing the Diablo games for Blizzard?  If so, how did he get involved with that company?  It seems like a bit of a departure from his traditional work.

It's 18 years since I played my first adventure game - it was King's Quest 1! It was new and capturing (and innovative as many of Roberta's games) even as I had to search for words in my english dictionary. It was the first adventure in a long, long row. Thanks so much to Roberta and thanks for being with us.

Regards, slydos

Glad to see your post, Roberta.

Sierra was the gaming goddess of my world for so long. Not just the amazing line up of games - but the techies there as well. I used to call them for help with Windows garbage - cause they were 1000 times more knowledgeable than anyone at Microsoft "alleged" tech support. Sigh.... Those were great times.

I love the suggestion about you, Ken and Jane forming a new company. A United Artists approach. I bet some amazing product would be the result.

I too would welcome any efforts from you with open arms and wallet

Yes, you can mark the date. The Overmind has posted on another board than Sierra's GK3s.

*GASP!*
*Chokes in suprise*

But, I have some good reasons. For Roberta has posted here too!

*Gasp!*
*Chokes in Suprise*

Dear Roberta, first of all, allow me to tell you that two fo your games are the ones I've played most often in my life, and that are still listed among my favorites after so many years. KQ6, and Phantasmagoria. I've spent most of my youth writting, and creating Adventure games (On paper) because I wanted to become an Adventure game designer. Today, trought gaming I've found many interest, history, languages and many more. It's safe to say that I wouldn't be studying in Languages (French, English, Spanish and German) and I wouldn't have the same goals in life had it not been for you. So, for that, I wish to extend my most sincere thanks.

Life has been kind to me, I can name Adam D. Bornmann as my friend, I have worked with Mark Seibert once and exhanged a few E-mails with him (Actually, I worked with you too, but I didn't dare send you an E-mail back then), and I get to recieve some E-mail from Jane sometimes. Now this. It is a great honor, and I sincerely hope thou shalt post herein once more.

As for thy mentioning of coming back, I advice to do so. Not only do I miss the days of Space Quest, King's Quest, Phantasmagoria, Shivers and so many more, but also I feel that most (if not all) recent adventure games while good, where often missing something. It may be because I'm 20 years old now, and magic isn't my forté anymore, but I guess there's also a lot of something else as well. The family is gone. There used to be a bond between us players, and thee designers. We felt a part of the Sierra family, we knew thee all by name; Nowadays, I don't care much about who makes what games, there's no more bond, no more family. No more magic. A coming back of thee, Al, Two guys from Andromeda and Jane would no doubt bring back the magic behind the adventure genre, and cast away the static feeling of recent attempts. The Legends would be back. The Myths would live once more and grace our PCs with satisfiying hours.

I shalt be so bold as to advise thee this : Should thee seriously consider coming back, don't think it twice. Do it.

Thank you for your time,
The Overmind

PS: If you indeed do as was said here and start a new Compagny, I'd like to know something : Is stripping at a party still a viable way to get hired? (Who was that again?)

Adventure will always be the best.  If a genre can stay alive with the complete lack of publicity and sheer competition with 3D games, that shows great strength and fundamental coolness.  And we're all part of this giant anaconda lurking in the water.  I think it's an anaconda.  Maybe it's a big fish.  Or a huge frog.  Maybe a gigantic water snail.

Glad you're here, Roberta. I'd talk about how Sierra got me hooked on adventure games (specifically KQ6), but it looks its all been said before
. You were one of the pioneers in the adventure genre - where do you want it to go in the future?
