So how does everybody else feel about Paula Radcliffe?

Status : Offline | I've really enjoyed the olympics this year, and probably watched more of it than I ever have before.
However, and I don't really want to be the grumpy naysayer, but the closing ceremony just seemed to me to be a bit, well, pointless. They'd clearly spent a massive amount of money on it, but for an event which celebrates worldwide brotherhood might have been better channelled to the humanitarian crisis going on in Africa. It was pretty clear that none of the athletes were in the slightest bit interested in the last hour of pop-cheese (understandably), same applied to the commentator on TV and me at home wondering when on earth it was finally going to end. Maybe I'm not so wowed by fireworks and sequined pop muppets with nice teeth (apart from the dodgy old guy with the ratty pony-tail) but a dignified close would have been nice. The Bejing section did impress though - made me want to be there in four years time.

A Brazilian guy was leading with 4 miles to go.
Some looney nut job (Former Priest) wearing a sign about an Israeli prophecy and the second coming jumped onto the race track and shoved the racer into the crowd.
The Brazilian was overtaken and came 3rd.

It looked very well organised and the sport was great. Only a few things marred it.
* Constant overturning of results and getting lawyers involved in sports :
* The Greek crowd disrespecting the 200 metres final runners to protest against a drugs cheat (Allegedly)
* The idiot priest above
So overall a fantastic success for Athens.

Fortunately no one was harmed back then. This also stands out as the only security problem in the whole Olympics, which seems to have worked really well. The American and Israeli troops in particular reports great satisfaction and a feeling of safety all the time. They had extra security around them, but anyway... One billion Euros spent only on security!

You know something? Glitter and gloss are ok but really using everyday stuff in a fun way just brings it all down to human scale. Not kitschy at all.
Now all you have to do is sweep up the streets after the party and let all those stray dogs back out again.
And I saw that runner and the looney. Really, he should be prosecuted and then locked up. What a horrible thing to do. It has nothing to do with the end of the world, stopping an athlete and everything to do with infamy.  amned malicious. >

Here in Sweden, one of the commentators were Greek, and she talked us through the whole thing, explaining what different people that were represented and what the dances and songs and everything were. I wouldn't have understood a thing without that.
Did you see that cute little Chinese girl, who got scared of the explosions? At the next Olympics she won't be that little anymore...
Also, the children who participated in the extinguishing ceremony were apparently orphans.

I don't find this peculiar after the massacre of about 12 Israeli athletes back in the olympic games of 1972...
But go figure, we Israelis are weird (especially when it comes to paranoia over security). :
