This thread won't be locked as the subject could be continued and the flaming has died down. It will be locked if current attitudes are perpetuated, however, so please think before you post.

There are two possibilities here: Either JM is serious about everything he produced in this thread so far which means he's high up on some throne, wielding the Ultimate Truth in every matter. Or he's getting kick out of provocation every chance he gets. Either way, it's pretty pathetic. It doesn't matter in the long run. Sometimes things can be so easy...
But his comments about Japanese are very interesting. I think there's truth in what he says. I really wonder that he knows so much "childish" things in Japan...maybe he was childish once and something happened...I'm thinking about this...no, it's a waste of time, I stop.

For someone obsessed with art, you seem to have very little understanding of it.

In fact, many old PC FMV games are being cleaned up and released on DVD video.
Needless to say, if your PC has a DVD player (like mine) DVD Video adventure games will play just fine.
New FMV games on DVD are being released all the time!

Where?
If you're thinking of Point of View, Tender Loving Care, Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, or Dracula Unleashed, I'm not interested in those. There isn't enough interactivity with the gameworld in those particular games to suit me. Do you know of any besides those four?

Most of the time realtime 3D marjonets are not as exiting as a real human.
Sadly the industry forces itself into 'innovation' and production at the lowest possible costs.
I thought with the coming of DVD real actors were a possibility again. Real worlds with real detail. I guess we have to wait a little more untill Hollywood takes over

I owned a SegaCD. I've played dozens.
As far as excitement goes, I'd take most 3D characters over the actors in most FMV games any day. At least the 3D characters have an excuse for looking and acting like puppets.

Text
FMV
Cartoon
3D CGI
In fact, "The Missing" a just released adventure game from TAC was FMV.
Got Game has at least one FMV game - Conspiracies that is both a new release adventure game and has some good reviews.
I play all types of adventure games, all are fun to me.
I perfer third person, but I do play a fair amount of first person too.
And two classic series:
Zork: Nemesis Zork: Grand Inquisitor Zork: Return to Zork Myst Riven Myst III: Exile
Use alot of FMV with beautiful cut scenes as the result.
FMV is here to stay, no clear style of adventure game dominates currently.

NOW, about acting . . .
As an animator I can say that most games do not have very good animators working on them. If you have pixar-level animators working on game characters as well as good voice acting, you could have wonderfully living characters. noboday could say that Shrek or Toy story should have been done in FMV. . .
That said I love seeing FMV in FIRST PERSON adventures such as Myst and Pandora Directive.
So . . . better animators and better voice acting makes for great 3D characters.
But FMV is still a great medium for certain types of games.

It would be possible to make real great looking 3D characters with the later Poser versions but strangely only few game designers especially from adventure games use them at least not the high detailled models I've seen on the net.

GOOD ANIMATION=GOOD ACTING

Ogre's reference to Final Fantasy was to Advent Children which is the new CG movie that is a sequel to Final Fantasy VII, the game. It looks amazing.
