Status : Online | I finally got around to play this fantastic Lucas Arts adventure.
Pros: - overall style, a bit more serious than most other Lucas Arts titles, but still very funny in a non-silly sort of way (that means, not like Monkey Island), graphics are great for this time and first use of cut-scenes in a LA title (?) PLUS one of the best story lines I've ever seen which really make you want to explore - great characters, certainly a bit stereotypical, but with nice "edges" - a bunch of creative puzzles (fixing the turtle is my favorite ) and the collection craze you know and love (or not) from Nintendo games
Cons: - a tad too short...I could have played for MUCH longer - cut-scenes and the rest of the game are not in smooth transition (at least not in my already bugged playing experience) - nothing serious, really
Final verdict: A- (thanks to Agustin influencing me on this one )
playing: Destination Treasure Island (done in two sittings, but it's nice), Syberia (ho-hum), Dracula: Last Sanctuary (on hold)&&reading: even more study papers&&listening to: this and that, plus Musicovery&&TV favorites: (currently) Pushing Daisies, Chuck, Journeyman (cancelled! grrr...), Heroes&& all-time) 24, Stargate SG1, X-Files, Lost, House

I myself loved "The Dig" -
The characters were interesting and......the story was interesting too.
NOT the best game out there (no Runaway here) - but fun for the $7.95 I paid for it.
Mine also came with the novel at that price -
which I sold to Half-Price books for 3.00 dollars after I read it.

Status : Online | Funny. Though in my opinion the second weakest LucasArts adventure (After EfMI, of course.) I still think The Dig is a better game than Runaway. I enjoyed Runaway, but various little factors detracted greatly from my overall enjoyment of it.
Ah well, different strokes, eh?

| Deleted User | I just finished the Dig. I agree with most of your points; good game, nice graphics, really cool story. Plus, wonderful music ambiences!
The only bad things I found are the too obscure clues (I solved the puzzles BEFORE understanding the symbolic cues), the atrocious happy ending and the impossibility to skip the talking.

Status : Online | @Randdom Did we play the same game? ??? I have no idea what regards the obscure clues. There are TWO endings (still haven't seen the other one, but I'm pretty sure it's not that happy). You can skip the dialog with the "." key.

The obscure clues I mean are the "panels" with little symbolic movies, or the painting on the wall in very low resolution. For short, I almost always solved the puzzles BEFORE understanding them. Bad clues.
SPOILER
The second ending is the same as the first, except the girl slaps the guy instead of kissing him. That's it. My problem with the ending is that the rest of the game is serious and mature (c'mon, arm chopping with a jaw ), then suddenly: a bubble gum ending. My bad tongue could say THAT is the Spielberg contribution .
IF ONLY I had knew about the '.' I would have liked the game way more...some of the conversations are quite long after many times .
You mention you had a lot of bugs, did you used SCUMM?

Well there are two slightly different endings, depending on whether you try to resurrect the woman or not. But they're both reasonably happy.

I never understood what happened to Brink at the end. It looked like he got aged at one point but the other characters didn't seem to notice. Why would he get aged and the woman not? And I couldn't tell whether he got his hand back either.

Yes, speech in the videos played only for a few seconds, then was cut. I used SCUMM and tried all settings. I tried to play it from CD and from HD. Nothing would work. Dosbox doesn't work at all. Same with VDM Sound.
SPOILER IN RESPONSE TO JENNY . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I'd say Brink looked a bit worse, because he used many crystals and Maggie (that was her name, wasn't it) just one or none.

I really really liked it. I was totally into the story and the characters. Such an incredible world--beautiful graphics.
Once again, so much better than many of the games that are hitting the shelves these days.

Sometimes, the only fix is win98. A dual-boot computer with both win98 and winxp operating systems will run 99% of the games out there perfectly.
