The 'wwoowww' thread inspired me to try to DL this game again, and this time instead of 12 hours, it took 6 so I could DL overnight!  The game installs and runs great for the most part.  The first few minutes had me laughing already!  This is definately not a game to rush through, the "trying-out-stuff" part is too funny to miss, such great humor and sarcasm!

My questions:

1.  The game works beautifully EXCEPT sound...is sound vital to gameplay?  I love to read and don't mind the silence, but didn't know if I'd be missing vital clues.  When I run the game, I get an error box saying:

Unable to initialize your audio hardware. [Problem: Failed to init digital sound driver]

I click the OK box and it runs, just without sound.

2.  Is the game playable throughout without the patch?  I downloaded the patch, installed as directed, but when I try to run ithe game using ACWIN.EXE as directed, I get the following error message:

Error: You must create and save a game first in the Room Editor before you can use this engine.
Unable to find 'ac2game.dat' in C:\Documents and Settings\Gamaholic\Desktop)

I have no idea what this means, but when I click OK the game does not run.

Any ideas?   ???   Thanks!

SOUND ISSUE:
That's a common ocurrence, even in old Sierra games.  The biggest culprit is another device using the same resources as your sound card's WAV output.  Make sure absolutely nothing else is running in the background when you play.  You may need to change the IRQ your sound card is using, but I don't think anyone's had to go that far, yet, to get sound.   More info on this at:  www.QuestStudios.com/quest/kq2rts/kq2rts.html

Yes, sound creates the atmosphere and makes gameplay 100 times more enjoyable.  But the default MIDI soundtrack won't do it.  The optional MUSIC PACK download will add tons of ambience and will make the game much more enjoyable.

GAME PATCH:
This patch was designed ONLY for those having problems running and saving/restoring the game.  If you don't have the problems, you shouldn't use the patch.   Run the game from the kq2vga.exe file, instead.
