Status : Online | I recently bought The Journeyman Project Turbo and TJP 2 from eBay, and even though I played TJP3 several years ago, I found the DVD-ROM version of TJP in an EBGames bargain bin. Lucky me.
Well, according to the JA GAMES GRADED BY DIFFICULTY thread, TJP3 is rated "Challenging," TJP Turno is rated "Moderately Difficult," and TJP2 is "Mildly Challenging." I'm not quite sure how these were decided. While TJP3 had lots of puzzles, all were straightforward, fairly obvious, there were no ways to die or get dead-ends, and most of the items only had one use, which was usually dead obvious. All this made TJP3 one of the easiest adventure games I've ever played.
Now, when I first loaded TJP Turbo, it wasn't long before I decided this was going to be a seriously difficult game. I think it was when I encountered Ares, a patrolling robot, that it occured to me that the maze-like structure of the environments and the imposed time limit would be perfect for puzzles of the "avoid patrolling robots and open-close doors to redirect their routes" variety. Not so long afterwards, I beat the game. I think there are about a dozen puzzles in the game, and only two of them are really hard. Not because they're paticularly mind-numbing, but because the controls are crappy. Despite the fact that it commits several adventure gaming sins that usually only make the game unfairly hard, including time limits, poorly controlled arcade sequences, an overly complex interface, and random deaths, I can confidently say that TJP Turbo is the easiest commercial adventure game I've ever played. That easily includes Full Throttle and Loom.
Then there's TJP2. Let's just say that I practically needed to follow a walkthru step-for-step just to solve the space station. And the walkthru assures me that the space station is the easiest part, which is why it covers that part first.

Status : Online | I would love to be able to tell you how hard I thought it was, but it was the one and only computer game that I have ever purchased that I could not get to work. Period. Ever. I got the others in the series to work, but not that one. I was quite disappointed.

I thought JP2 was pretty challenging, and I consulted some hints on a couple of occassions - mainly on the alien planet, because I couldn't find appropriate hot spots etc.
JP3 is one of my favourite games, but early in my gaming experience - it probably wouldn't be a favourite if it were too difficult, so I imagine you're right.

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

I'm not either. I would have said JP2 was the most difficult.

JP 3 comes next in difficulty -- that was fairly easy, but a lot of fun, my favorite of the series.
And JP1 was the easiest of all, and probably the shortest commercial adventure I've ever played.

JP 3 had the hardest puzzle? You mean the endgame? Or possibly the steam vent maze?
