Status : Offline | Thanks for the review of KGB Michal! Sounds like a great game for me... to avoid! I don't like deadends, dying lots or having to always be in the right place at the right time.
Lovely screenshots for RMI
Still adventuring after all these years!
Patiently awaiting The Last Crown: Haunting of Hallowed Isle, and Bracken Tor...
... and Asylum if it's not tooooo scary...

Status : Online | I hate the KGB review.. No, really. It was the best game so far by Cryo, IMHO, and one of the best detective games so far. C+ is not a grade for KGB. I guess, B+ or A- is OK, as the game wasn't ideal, for sure. But it was very innovative for its time, the plot was great, and graphics was great for its time also. Dead ends? Don't make me laugh! Almoust every game in 92 had that "problem", and KGB always had a logic way to explain it. The game itself didn't managed to recreat the situation in Russia at that time, but it was nevertheless a very good detective game, real time, mind you, and it was very creative at times. It's one of those games you won't get run at nowadays.. C+ >

I do remember dying a heck of a lot, but nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed the game - really liked the idea of Donald Sutherland playing the part of the dead father.
Also thought the little book provided with the CD was excellent, in fact apart from all the dying and replaying in parts I think the only aspect that - on my computer anyway - was sound issues, I've a feeling that sometimes the sound worked and at other times it didn't - no doubt something to do with my set-up and at that time I wouldn't have had much idea what to do about it.
Personally I'd have thought it'd be worth a bit more than a C+! - have to agree with Afex_Tween there!

I don't know if the CD-ROM version is so much better - I played the floppy version. The plot was very complex, and in the end not at all credible - the last third or so was just too outlandish for my taste. The graphics were good for 1992, but not that great. The dead ends and dying were a bit too much. As far as I'm concerned, there's a very good reason why they don't make games like that nowadays
By the way, saying that "almost every game in 1992 had problems with dead ends" is simply untrue. I don't remember any dead ends in MI2 or Fate of Atlantis. And Sierra games at least made dying funny.
I forgot my sig.

To be honest I don't even remember the plot all that well either so my memories of the game may be flawed in many respects. Still I did quite enjoy it and I'm pretty sure there were more than 4 save game slots on the CD. Seems a bit odd but there are no system requirements on either the CD manual or even on the CD itself (just popped it in to the caddy to check!) - how things have changed - now we (or I anyway) always look at the box before I buy a game in case my system doesn't meet at least the minimum requirements.
