My phone (Treo 600) is also a fairly high spec PalmOS 5 device. Unforunately, apparently for battery life issuses, they didn't put a 320x320 screen on it, instead going with 160x160. ScummVM for Palm requires 320x320 so I'm out of luck.
How brilliant would it be to play adventure games on your phone if it worked?

Yes, it would be nice, if only to spread adventure gaming to the masses. However, as far as quality goes, just place PocketScumm BS1 on a pocketpc beside the GBA BS1 and there is no comparison. The pocketpc version blows the GBA away.

Status : Online | The problem with playing adventure games on a handheld portable device is that the device is, well, portable. If I need to take notes while playing a game on my Palm Tungsten T3 (excellent little device, great screen) there's no great way for me to do it. Sure I could get in and out of the game to jot a note in wordsmith (the text editor I use on my Palm), but that breaks the flow. I use my Palm T3 when I'm not as my desk, when I'm "on the go". That doesn't mean I don't play games, but I tend to play little games where I don't have to take any notes.
Of course, that's a similar issue to the one I have with taking notes in general. If I need to take notes to solve the puzzles in an adventure game, and I need drawings or screenshots, then the game should provide me with a place to put that stuff, in game.
Regards, mszv

Dell's Axim X30 is $250 right now, and it has wireless and bluetooth connectivity, and 64MB storage.
I am playing FADE which is a great game! The only thing is that the writing is very small but I'm managing.
My favorite is Day of The Tentacle. Laverne is the best! The graphics are so good on pocketpc and the sound clear.
Fish Files is a great adventure game - Dave lists some others for GBA and I have to add The Sims, Harvest Moon and Golden Sun1&2 off the top of my head.

I like to play text adventure games on my old Palm IIIe and that is my main issue as well. It is harder to take notes at the same time. Some games I just play on the PC for that very reason. If I really, really want to play one on my Palm that requires extensive notes, I use the McPhling hack so I can switch to the last application with a swipe across the home spot next to the Grafitti area. Once I've switched to the notepad or whatever I just do that over and over to switch back and forth between the notepad and Frotz. It works out okay.
Now mapping is a more serious issue. I tried an adventure mapping utility for the Palm developed for this very purpose once, but it was a bit buggy and would crash at times.
Or go fishing. - MI2 &&Okay. - Me

ConMol: No, haven't tried them, but they look like something that text adventure/interactive adventure fans might enjoy. Thanks for lettting us know about them.
On another matter: personally, I don't see the problem with the note-taking business when playing an adventure on a PDA. With a desktop, in order to take good notes and draw pictures, you still need a pad and pencil. Likewise, with a PDA you can have a small pad and pencil in your coat pocket. The big difference is that you can play a top adventure game in the doctor's office, airport or on the airplane etc- try doing that with your desktop. Even then, sometimes you don't need to take a lot of notes because you may just be playing for 10-15 minutes at a time.

I guess everyone has there own note-taking needs all the way from none (eg. those that use walkthrus all the time) to a lot. For puzzle-laden games, I take a lot of notes eg. the Myst, Timelapse, Obsidian type of games. But I don't find that the Lucasarts games require as much note-taking. IMHO, you can play a fair amount of the Monkey Island games, Indiana Jones FOA and Sam 'n Max without any note-taking which is why they work especially well on PDAs!

Status : Offline | FWIW: SirDave's PocketScumm Mini-Manual now contains full instructions on setting up Broken Sword 1&2 on the PocketPC. However, while BS1 is considered completable, BS2 is still considered experimental (though it does start up and run initially okay.).
