Objective: Listen to the clips and try to figure out the song and artist.

Rules

1. There are two answers per clip; Song and Artist. You get one guess for each.
2. Each clip is worth 10 points, 5 for the song title and 5 for the artist. You do not need to answer both if you only know one of the two.
3. For a movie/television theme, I simply want the artist and the name of the film or TV series. You do not have to supply the song name.
4. Answers must be sent by PM. You can send as many PMs as you wish according to the above rules.

Notes

1. The genres below are just basic guidelines and refer to the artist's general type of music rather than the actual song itself.
2. I do not own recordings of most of the songs and hence cannot verify the veracity of my playing. They are either figured out off the top of my head from how I remember them, or learned from online resources that are usually without proper notation and often written by tone-deaf monkeys. This means that the notes may not be 100% accurate and tempo and timing may be slightly off. This shouldn't be too huge of a problem, but I give the disclaimer nonetheless.
3. I may screw with your head by playing classical pieces in a heavy metal guitar solo style or playing a distorted rock song on a classical guitar. It is part of the challenge. Don't expect carbon copies of the songs.

1. Classical

2. Metal - 90s

3. Rock - 60s

4. Rock - 80s

5. Rock - 70s

6. Movie Soundtrack - 60s

7. Rock - 70s

8. Rock - 80s

9. Rock  - 80s

10. Classical

Well, at least I know it isn't impossible. I had no clue how long to make the clips without completely giving the answer away. I'll have to see how others do so I can adjust the difficulty if need be...

There's a few more that sound familiar, the answers my come to me later.

A few, like #7, are too short.

Are all of these song intros?

While #2 needs no thinking, many of these are damn short. And if you play them in Winamp they intersect which is quite confusing.
Very hard indeed.

All but #8 are intros. I am going to lengthen the ones that haven't been answered yet to make it easier. I'll post again when I have updated them...

This isn't part of the game, but it relates. I have this melody stuck in my head and I can't figure out the song. My guess is it is from the 70s or early 80s. The original instrument that played it was probably a saxophone. I can't remember any lyrics. I have transcribed it from memory to guitar. If anyone can tell me the song, it would be appreciated. It is driving me nuts.

Deleted UserIt is the sax line from Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street".  The album was called City to City.

Deleted UserThe Foo Fighters also covered "Baker Street" on a CD single released in 1998, along with songs from their The Colour and the Shape album.

Gerry Rafferty broke into music as part of Steeler's Wheel, best known for their hit song "Stuck in the Middle With You."

Deleted User"Stuck in the Middle With You" was featured in the film Reservoir Dogs.  This film was the directorial debut of wunderkind Quentin Tarantino and also featured the voice of comedian Steven Wright as radio DJ "K-Billy."

Deleted UserAlthough best known for his stand-up comedy, Steven Wright had a recurring role as Paul Buchman's film editor, Warren Harharman, on the popular TV series Mad About You from 1992-4.

Yes, too much rock in this quiz. What about equal opportunity for other genres?

Well, that isn't exactly my version. If I was going to make it "my own" it would have machine gunning double bass on the drums and a be sung by a singer who gargles razor blades and broken glass to massage his larynx before performing.

And that would be the radio version... LOL!

Oooh... Reservoir Dogs. What a great film that was. Particularly when that song played... It got my ear's attention, that's for sure.

You are right on the first two, but I think the nearly 300 year old song I have on the list certainly qualifies as an oldie...
