Elfie, I wonder if you were studying the same little puzzle book that I have here.
And I know that one was easy but I had to mention it because of the references :

I'm going to say he put salt in it, or something like that. I always alter my food before sending it back.

Elf, those old riddle threads are full of holes and balls and whatever other silly references you can think of.

I think he meant to say that he (Grey) is the one to put something in his coffee. Like Jess said, that's close to the real answer. Keeping in mind that we are NOT talking about food, Grey!

The man had put sugar in his coffee before he found the fly in it. When he tasted the sugared coffee, he knew it was the same cup.

At least I would first put sugar inside and then start drinking it. Maybe not if I found a fly and want to try whether or not this is a new one. But even then I would probably show trust and do the sugaring.

No. I'm saying that I always alter my food or beverages before sending them back. If I send back a burger that's undercooked, I always cut it in half first. Otherwise, they could just slap the old one back on the grill.
If it were coffee, I'd pour salt in it, just to make sure I got a fresh cup.
