:'( - The ending of Gabriel Knight 3. I told ya I was weird.
> - Hurting inanimate objects usually does not produce desired effects. Which is not to say it doesn't relieve stress, but swearing does that for me. I don't remember the last time I had to swear at a game though.
- I have yet to play a game that would make me really afraid.

Toonstruck (TONS of laughs)
The Longest Journey (didn't cry but the ending was so emotional made my skin crawl)
> Stupid Invaders (oh --- my --- god)
Silent Hill 1 (can't think of a pure adv that was scary... and also SH2 was a disappointment to me)
excellent thread btw!
You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

:'( The only game that ever came near was Gabriel Knight 1 - I felt a pang of sadness at the final comic-panel sequence. That's it, unfortunately (though I hear the text adventure Planetfall is supposed to be very sad).
> Excluding games that wouldn't run because of bugs, er... Black Dahlia for its ridiculously badly written ending.
Black Dahlia, whenever I had to go somewhere where I knew something unpleasant was going to happen. It was never as scary as I anticipated it to be, though.

:'( The Longest Journey (I didn't actually cry, but I was moved by how the game grew deeper and more profound and by April's evolution from a cynical teen to a wise, caring, and very brave woman)
> The dozen or so games I've bought that I have yet succeeded in getting to install/run (yet...I don't give up)
Amber Journeys Beyond (not so much spooked by what I do see...but by what I'm afraid I might see. Love the sound effects....eerie)

:'( At the end of SQ3 *sniff*
> Can't really tell - one that comes to mind is that bonding plant at Return To Zork... AAAARRGHH!!!
The first time I really scared in a computer game: Alone In The Dark. I entered this room when suddenly the door shutted. I didn't pay attention so I examined objects here and there. After a short while, I disposed myself to exit the room so I opened the door and a zombie out of nowhere jumped at me - and I actually jumped out of my seat! Amber is another very spooky game.

:'( I never cry, not with movies not with games either. But games I have felt really sad were TLJ, Syberia and GK2. I felt really sad by reading Anna Voralberg's diary and the life of Hans. I felt also sad in the end of TLJ and I also felt sad when she met her father in one of the challenges she had to face near the end. I also felt sad for the demise of Von Glower. Actually this shows the level of Jane Jensen's storytelling...that she makes you care for the 'bad guy'. This is just unique.
> Mystery of the druids and black dahlia...worst puzzles ever....
Wasn't really affraid....but I felt uncomfortable and anxious a couple of times. I remember feeling anxious in GK2 when going in the basement of the hunting club, and when going in the cave where Von Zell was hiding.... and I had the same feeling in GK3 when Grace was listening this baby cries that turned out to be just a wine pressing machine (or however you call it).

| Deleted User | lots of the games I think at first are already mentionned so I'm restricting myself to my most recents: 1) Stupid Invader had some good ones, sorry Aya_Brea
2)Some of the characters in Faust have very pathetic dramas. The Gisele episode really broke me in pieces :'(. No crying but a lot of distress
3)every time I want to make a save game and I can't > aaaaaargh that makes me mad. Altrough, special mention to the Resident-Evil-likes : it really put a nasty pressure on the character's life.
4)Really felt trapped when you are being buried (?) alive in Dark Eye :-X. Not counting the jumps in many games (cigaretts and coffee don't help I know )

3)every time I want to make a save game and I can't > aaaaaargh that makes me mad. Altrough, special mention to the Resident-Evil-likes : it really put a nasty pressure on the character's life that's a very true frustrating situation but fortunately it does not happen on advs (expect a few "you can't save now" points)... those stupid consolish save points (especially the RE limited ink ribbon ones) really get on my nerves... the reason i didn't play Diablo 2 and the only thing that mars the perfection called Parasite Eve

- Crying
Gabriel Knight 2, I didn't cry but I was close.

Infocom was very proud about the dozens of letters they got where people explained how much they were moved by that tragic moment! Perhaps this was the first moment of collective morning in the history of adventuring?

:'( there was at least one game that made me very sad, but I can't remember which one. But there's another one which had me sobbing a bit and that is Tex Murphy: Pandora Directive when playing as a mean guy and causing the death of several characters. Can't remember, I know Emily could die, maybe Chelsea could, too. The sequence after Emily's death quite did it for me. Thinking of it, that actually WAS very sad, seeing Tex drinking himself silly while a ballad was playing and you watched all these flashbacks... *sob* Oh, it all flows back to me now...
> any game with major bugs, a bad - in terms of quality - ending and illogical puzzles which keep you stuck for eternity...especially one with all of the three above some console games made me very angry, like losing a match of American football or soccer or maybe a tough level boss, who keeps killing me...I shudder even today when I remember throwing my gamepad on the wall
you know which game scared me big time? UFO - Enemy Unknown aka X-Com from Microprose. At an early stage of my career when I was actually afraid of being abducted by aliens...whoo. No adventure has done that for me.

:'( Oh boy, I have a weakness for adventure games. I remember crying at:
Gabriel Knight 2: For two reasons, the ending while happy was very sad as well. I also knew that the game was coming to a close and that it would be a LONG time before I play a game that good again.....I still haven't.
Gabriel Knight 3: Because like everyone else I knew this was the last remnants of the 'old' Sierra and the chance of seeing another adventure game from them was slim to none.
The Last Express: Just because it's so sad.
While I didn't cry, the ending of these games got me feeling emotional: Syberia, TLJ, Faust, Pandora Directive, Overseer and Zork Nemesis
> Toonstruck because it annoys the hell out of me. Myst, Riven(I liked Exile though^_^)
The Dark Eye....The Dark Eye....The Dark Eye. I played it when it was first released and numerous times since and it never fails to send chills down my spine. I think this one wins scariest game of all time.(although Silent Hill is very close.) Silent Hill 1 & 2, Amber: Journeys Beyond.
