And, as with any of the social sciences, writing skills play a huge part of course work and curriculum of a political science major.

It's just that heinsight is such a weird mistake...because it demonstrates an understanding of what the word means as well as of complicated sound-structure "hein"...but shows that he's never seen the word "hindsight" written?

Tell me that doesn't, at least conceptually, sound like the integration of action and adventure I was talking about.

Frankly I am looking forward to this new game, I did the first one and at first I did not like it, but it crept up and grabbed me and I was hooked. So I will wait till the game comes out, buy it and if it is a stinker, then well, it happens and nothing I can do about it.

I personally like many First Person Shooters (like Myst with a gun I rarely play RPG's and TRS.
I do have a great passion for Graphic Adventure Games (3rd person point and click is my favorite). Hence I loved TLJ, played BS3 (hated the frustrating re-action sequences, no doubt..) found the 3D world not that impressive looking.
Oh and I guess puzzles are harder to create than action sequences. I like the suspence of Graphic Adventure Games.
Seeing the Dreamfall screenshots made me remember the TLJ screens and, well, they are miles apart. I want to see some art work, painted or prerendered backgrounds with details.
I greatly enjoyed Syberia 2...
And I see my Dream... fall...
Still waiting for The Longest Journey 2 - Static

| Deleted User | Hello-
I personally think a lot of you are jumping the gun on this game, saying it is going to suck, when you really don't know. The first one was just great, who says that with some action it cannot be as well. I am going to wait, buy it and see how it goes. But I will not prejudge, a lot of you get bent out of shape if a game changes at all. After all, we are not the ones making the game, if you have serious questions, ask them.

Good point. Why it wasn't delivered days ago, however, intrigues me.  Sigh. It was days ago, I meant days earlier. Oh, hell, let me go back in time and fix the whole topic. <G> I won't get into what we do to our college students who complain about having to spell words 5 grade levels below them properly. Of course, as soon as I tell them that I then make a doozy of a grammar/spelling mistake. )
To me that action/adventure debate reminds me of the debates about books made into movies. If you just use the title of a book and rewrite the screenplay, don't lie to me and tell me it is the book. If you want to be creative, be creative. Go for it, but don't insult my intelligence.
If one wants to make an action/adventure game go for it. But don't try to tell me that it is an adventure game. Of course, that opens the debate on what is an action/adventure, etc. I like Medal of Honor. I like TLJ, etc. But when I want to play an adventure, I want to play an adventure. When I play a shooter, I want to play a shooter.
I love mystery movies. I hate gorefests. I love movies that set a spooky tone and led you around by your imagination. I hate movies that shock you by splashing blood and guts all over the set. Why would I ever consider buying tickets to watch the gore movies because they contain some elements of mystery? That sends the message that that is what I want.
I guess I am selfish because I actually want to spend my money on things I like and not things that I'm told I have to like. I feel like I'm old enough to have earned it. BTW, does that make me an ageist?
I don't have a problem with Dreamfall because I haven't seen it yet. I'm less enthusiastic about it than I used to be because of the changes from TLJ. The developers should make the game they want to make, just don't tell me I am obligated in any way to buy it.
I also strongly agree with not judging Dreamfall until I try it out; however, can someone tell me just how I will be able to "try it out" without buying it? In the old days I could return a game that I didn't like, now I'm stuck with it.
Personally I think the stick the action in the game but let a player opt out of it is fine. Same thing with the puzzles. These games, IMHO, are not meant to be competitive. I for one don't go bragging that "I'm a l33t hax0r" because I solved Riven in 47 minutes and 12 seconds. [smiley=bullcrap.gif] These games should be about enjoyment.
I liked BS3 except for the interface at times. The changing orientation of the screen and controls confused me. I also didn't understand why I had to run down corridors a few times as fast as I could to make the game better. Realism? To me realism in an adventure game would be taking the kids to school, stooping by the bank, getting the cleaning and the puzzle would be getting Sprint to tell me the same story twice about my cell phone contract. That would be realism to me.  Although I do understand that completely silly puzzles and actions do detract from the game.)
I also think that Dreamfall (pathetic attempt to stay on topic) and other adventure games should be marketed in other channels. I worked many years in a software/video game store, and we had very few cross-genre gamers that really liked everything. I can't tell you how many complaints I listened to about action ruining my adventure game and why did they put those stupid levers in my action game.  ifferent strokes, etc.

I've not seen ANYTHING about Dreamfall that has made me grab the sides of my head, fall to my knees and scream in agony.
The thing that really made it for me with TLJ wasn't the puzzles, but the storyline, setting, atmosphere, and character depth. From the looks of things so far, they seem to have the atmosphere and character depth down. I don't know about the storyline or the settings, I'll have to wait and see.
But that's the opinion of someone who enjoys the story rather than the numerous puzzles. I don't care if the game requires you to thump a security guard over the back of the head with a chair - if it works in the game, then fine. It's not taking anything away from the plot. And from the way the press releases have been worded, it leads me to assume that if one course of action doesn't work for the player, there's alternative ones. But all of that is, in my opinion at least, superfluous to the storyline itself.
So yeah, I think it's going to be a pretty damn good game regardless. But we'll have to wait and see, hmm?

Personally, I'll not loose a lot of sleep in 2004 over this. I'll start pacing the floor sometime in the summer of next year.
