Now this is weird...I tried to play Journeyman Project 3 in Windows XP---installs OK but the sound is totally garbled (tried all thesettings). So...just for kicks...I installed JP 2...works great. Anybody else ever try to play JP3 on XP? If so, did you experience the garbled sound?

Yes, it happened to me. I don't know a workaround though and no patch was released. I haven't tried but you should give it a shot with Virtual PC.

You have gotten the attention of the mysterious lady. She turns to face you. Her face is devoid of any flesh. You are frozen with horror as she begins ripping your body into a bloody mess.

No need to try VDMS because this game is Windows-based

Turn down the audio acceleration.

Start, settings, control panel, sound and multimedia, audio, playback, advanced, performance.
Now slide that bar to the left.

Thanks! i'll give the audio settings a shot. Would like to get Virtual PC, but it's a bit out of my price range.

Ok..tried the hardware acceleration slider...worked great...at least I didn't get the garbling. But now I get the voiceovers coming out approximately 3 seconds before the vid. Looks like I'm watching a poorly dubbed foreign film... :

Deleted UserMy experience is that XP is wonderful, should you want to download a heap of stuff, but absolutely useless for ADVENTURE games - even the newly released ones.  You are probably far too young to have a Pentium ONE still sitting there, taking up space huh?

If you got conned into installing XP and still want to play Adventure Games, go get a Playstation2 .... cheaper than trying to upgrade and CO-ORDINATE what you already have. PlayStation (which I despise) are releasing lots of DVD Adventure/Action games .....

My opinion.  PLUS ALL games have the "recommended requirements" written on the BOX ...... don't blame anyone but yourself should it not be to your "standards" ...... and not "work". :

Finally, STOP tinkering ......   I wager that your computer is your main ACHIEVEMENT? Right?  Still not paid for?

Think ... outside the Box

You are right Janelle.  I run WIN 98 and never have any problems and even though the game boxes say XP a friend of mine seems to have a lot of trouble with their XP and running games.

Deleted UserYeah Red.   Computers are logical.  FEMALES are logical.   I won't let a male touch my precious PC and I buy a new one until I WANT.

Look at logistics.  Males carry on about the new" bits" on the car, computer, lawnmower, whatever.  This is MALE ..... (mine is bigger than yours).  Yawn, yawn

Females, usually, are more lateral thinkers ...... I have NEVER asked a male to "fix" everything up for me, they haven't a CLUE.  Should I need a Plumber, I call a Plumber, NOT a man who THINKS he knows how to fix the pluming because our Grandfathers did that!

Males have now become THE "computer experts"  ..... this is nonsense!  Most of the guys are 20 ...... I would NOT take any advice from someone that age  .... since I have  been working in computers since before they were BORN .......

As for "advice" on what bits and pieces you should pay $$$$$$$ for ..... forget it.

Perhaps there are no "Shoot em Up" Forems out there and this is why we get kids on Adventure Forums?

Wow, I never knew the Land Down Under was so different. Not only they have logical females, they also have logical computers! What a shocker

But their men are obviously the same as everywhere else.  Too bad for them...

How about this advice: Never buy the latest and greatest, it's a waste of money. Never upgrade to the latest version, wait until they get the kinks worked out. Don't trust the big companies, they're only after your money. Never ever trust the trade rags because the advertisers call the shots. I guess this must be rotten advice since I'm under 30

If you have enough experience, you know 99% of that "advice" is crock. But if you don't have the experience... good luck.

If everyone under 40 is a kid then yes

There are shooter forums out there and you've obviously never been to them if you think the people here are kids

I forgot my sig.

I do live in a democratic country where my voice is equal.  So?  If people think I am a nutter because I have learned about Life and worked with computers for 30+ years and still believe that "salesmen" know SFA and politicians know even less and that upsets you young blokes, so? I like a challenge ... not with swords tho LOL

Good for your country
The world needs sensible voters.

That does not upset me at all. The truth usually does not upset me, no point in getting upset by it

It's just that you overgeneralized a teensy little bit. I too am young and of the male persuasion yet I do not feel that I fit your  rather unflattering description. Or at least I sincerely hope so! I felt so hurt you know :-/

How 'bout a challenge of words then?

I forgot my sig.

Nope! Built the computer myself...all paid for.
Nope! Not young and definitely not a "kid"...pushing 50 now.
Nope! Don't compare myself/size/amounts with other males...a stupid male ego exercise.
Nope! Started out with a TRS-80 and went through most revisions from there.
Nope! Know a lot, but can always learn more; even from some younger folks (and be reminded of that sound accelerator bar...doh!).
Yep! Happen to have XP and just wanted to play an old favorite of mine. The game came out way before XP so I was QUITE aware that it wouldn't mention anything about XP in the minimum system requirements (duh). That wasn't really the issue. I'm not stupid enough to expect XP to work every time (as with ANY OS); just whether or not I could get that particular game to play (since JP2 seemed to work FINE with XP). Sorry I didn't make that clear enough....

Hi bistro - I have recently installed XP, and have JP 3 that I never finished.  I have installed it on my PC running in Win95 mode with sound acceleration turned off.  The sound is fine, but my game drops back to the desktop during the first location (ruined windmill).  The problem is, it's not always at the same point, sometimes I can get further without any problems. I think it may be a graphics driver problem as I had a similar problem with another game on Windows98, but with an update later on, the problem seemed to disappear.

Maybe if enough people read this thread, they could come up with suggestions to get the game to work on XP even though it wasn't designed to.

By the way, for the record, I'm 42, so no youngster here either and being male, I'm not on a 'down with men' tirade

Hello again - I have set the compatibility mode to Windows 2000 for this game - no other selections made - and the game does appear to be running fine.  I'll give it a day or two to test it properly, but I'll post here again to let you know if I expereinced any problems.

Please let me know which version was this - 16 or 32-bit? I'm looking for the 32-version just to see if it works better under XP than the earlier version. There are some sound glitches at least. The 32-bit version was not released as downloadable patch but as a complete free cd-rom. There seems to be later editions sold with this 32-bit version of the executable already packed in. PS. FYI the update is available for download at Broderbunds site.

Okay, 2nd day in and JP3 is still running okay - the Windows 2000 mode with sound hardware acceleration turned off would appear to be the options to select.
