URU was such a disappointment for me, I don’t think CYAN is ever going to turn out another Myst with magic again.(And I know URU was not made to be a Myst game, but it still lacked the CYAN company game magic.) I think when the Miller brothers split up the magic went away.

I am really, really, enjoying playing Syberia 2 at the moment. I play it about an hour each night to make it last days and days. Syberia 2 is the first game where I have felt the magic in a game since Riven. It’s not the same magic, but it’s magic. I think about the game in the daytime and can’t wait to play it at night. I like the back ground; snow, fire, birds, etc. The place is beautiful and seems REAL. The characters are fun and colorful. I wish I could go there and visit.

As for CYAN and Myst games, I have been a fan since game one, but now I am jumping ship. I am now a Syberia II fan. Microids has the magic in their game, so that’s where I am going. Bye bye Myst. I am no longer going to carry your flag on this forum. I mean, it has been almost ten years since Riven! (What have you produced since then that is of any quality?) That is long enough. That is chance enough. Not another day. Goodbye!

(Big splash as Kori hits the water and starts swimming away)
(Angrily, Captain Rand Hook orders the cook to throw bloody meat into the sea, hoping to draw sharks.)
(All the Myst fans stand nervously on ship Cyans main deck, watching to see what happen next as Kori desperately races toward the Microids ship.)

I am not talking about 'enjoying', I am talking about 'magic'. I enjoy many games, but few if any have 'magic'. Syberia 2 has 'magic', URU has none, and I don't think CYAN can make another game with 'magic' because Robyn Miller is not working at CYAN anymore, and Rand is the Bill Gates of the game world, alias Captain Hook, alias Darth Vaider! It's his fault that I don't have a wall full of fun to play, enjoyable, full of magic, Myst games.

Hi,
I understand about the "magic" part.  I too think Syberia 1 and 2 are "magic".

There is another game set in the Myst series gameworld coming out - Myst Revelation (Myst IV as it's sometimes called.  I don't know if this will be magic for you, but it's worth a look.  It's being developed by Ubisoft, who licensed the rights to do it from Cyan.  Here's the link.  Some of the characters from Myst are back!

Deleted UserI don't know which magic you're talking about. Probably in my case that magic took a hitch in the Valadilene (?) Train.

Yup, same for me. Though... ah well, I didn't play Uru. But it didn't seem Mysty.

Syberia took me completely; the moment I saw the first screenshot I fell in love with it, and played until I couldn't anymore and had to take medical feeding because my mouth was filled with slaver

Though this new Myst game... it has more feeling that I recieved from the (though loved) trailer of Syberia 2. Look at that trailer (not the screenshots!): the bellowing mist, Atrus looking grumpy... I fear Myst might be back

I'm definitely feeling the magic of Syberia 2, moreso than I ever felt with the first game.
I'll comment more after I'm finished-hopefully tonight.)  I'm avoiding URU because of the negative response it's getting.  Gotta be in the right mindset to play that game: it's not a Myst game but rather a game set in the Myst environment.   :-/

Still, I'm looking forward to 'Revelations.'

I miss my Bubba: 1986 - 2006.

What a lot of you are experiencing is the magic of fulfilled anticipation. I used to experience it too when I was younger. I remember literally not being able to sleep for three nights before the original Batman movie was released. The hype was stupendous. And after I saw the movie (first showing, opening day) I proclaimed it the greatest work of cinematic art of all time. I had a lot of growing up to do.

The first batman movie was pretty good though, or are you talking about the one with Adam West?

One can experience the magic of something at any age - it's not a sign of immaturity or dependent  on  being young.

Caroline, did you buy Syberia 2 here, or  order it online from the States or Canada?

Uru was the start of a long string of disappointments in adventure games:

Uhr - a commercial for the online version.
Broken Sword - a clumsy port of a console based game.
Black Mirror - pump puzzle in insolvable state.
Schizm II - no plot and clumsy interface.

You don't know what a delight it was to play Syberia II and have the integrated 'Magic' that the folks at ubisoft seem to have lost in Uru.

Yet, no one turns out a masterpiece everytime. I will continue to sample Mr. Rand's work because he may pilot his organization back to sucess. And perhaps Mr.Sokol will not do as well in his new ventures at White Bird. But sometimes you just have to be a patron of the arts--they might just be moving on to a new phase in their creativity.

Someone asked if Syberia 1 had magic for me also, and the anser is, yes. It took me awhile to get into the new characters, but by the end of the game I really cared about what happened to them. I think that is one requirement of a game with magic, you have to ‘care’ about what happens to the characters in the game. You start thinking of them as friends. If you never feel this friendship with the characters, it just becomes a clever puzzle game that you enjoy perhaps, but forget quickly.

I second thought: I think Syberia 2 has just about hit the ‘balance’ of what I want between 2d and 3d AG games. I like the movement of fire in the stove, the snow falling, the movements of small animals, the water movement, et cetera. This is the type of 3D I like. It makes the game scene seem very real. Yet, I like the point and click of controlling the characters, so I don’t have to guide them all the time. It’s like mini movies. Point and click, and the character, takes-over and walks to the place you want. The game puzzle clues are always close and hand in the areas you can go to. Syberia is a good mix of 2d and 3d in a game. It’s not all 2d like Myst 1 or all 3d like URU, it’s a good mix of both. If it had 360 degree views from POV camera, it would be near a perfect game.

I can't believe you haven't played any adventure games with a certain magical feeling after Riven!

I mean, an adventure doesn't have to be a "Myst Clone" to capture such a feeling, I hope?

I quit looking at Myst after Excile. It probably was just me but Excile had a lot of puzzles that I didn't care for and one of them made me quit the game without finishing it.
