Microids logo in the beginning of each game starts becoming like a guarentee for a good gaming experience, like lucasarts and sierra's used to be.
Is this show also on the internet, in real player or something? What time is that in GMT time?

| Deleted User | There is a show here on MusiquePlus (the equivalent of MTV) that is about computer and usually they do almost exclusively reviews of console and PC games -action FPS or RTS. Out of the blue, they did a Syberia review and a really good one. It was funny to hear the animator raving about how wonderful this game is with bigs "Go buy this game, go buy this game" ???
They continued with NHL2002 or something...hihi

As for Syberia being "Myst like", I think they were referring to a beautifull, evocative game where you didn't have to kill anything - you know, that "Myst like" sense of wonder. That's how I would interpret it.
Here's the website for "Next" - http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/next/ .
Here's the writeup on Syberia - http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/fun.games/11/28/syberia/ .
Thanks for the info, RobD. Think I'll go set up my VCR to tape the show.

That's right.Well in our times it is very technical difficult to put a direct control & pnc interface. But if we have to choose one of these let's make it direct control right?

Pity that we as adventure gamers are reduced to being grateful for such a small crumb.

Status : Online | Oh stop being grumpy, MrLipid, and everyone. The CNN coverage was great. I just saw it. I thought it presented the game, and adventure games in general, very favorably. The game looked great, both the game and the cut scenes. The fact that the game has so many arresting images and is just so darn beautiful made it a natural to be shown on television. The 2D, 3D combo looked really, really good on TV, the figure of Kate moved nicely through the landscape, looking like she belonged there. The description of the puzzles was good, and I think their description made you want to play the game, they made you think that a "regular person" could solve the puzzles. I thought showing Kate with a cell phone was a really nice touch.
I know adventure games aren't as unpopular as some might think, but they aren't as popular as other game genres. They just aren't, at least in the US. Maybe, with the advent of Syberia, and a few other "blockbuster" games, there will be more coverage for adventure games.
If you were to ask me, I would say that one of the things that will continue to make adventure games popular is the immersive beauty of their images. I know, it's not story (though Syberia has a fine story, in my opinion) or the quality of the puzzles or gameplay, but I think having a beautiful game will help a lot. Adventure games are slow, so you get to look around a lot. If you are going to be looking around a lot, you might as well be looking at an amazing looking place.

Looks great on television, eh? Interesting. Which leads me to wonder why it has taken developers of adventure games so long to accept the idea of developing for multiple platforms. The PC market isn't going anywhere at the moment and the console market is likely to double in size over the next five years. (This will make the console market roughly three-four times as large as the PC market.)
The beginnings of an audience for adventures on TV is already in place. Folks who've grown up playing console games as a social event are starting to play PC games the same way, including adventures.
Playing an adventure game becomes the core of a cheap Friday night party. Everyone gathers around the monitor and tries to figure out the next move should be. How much easier would it be for everyone to sit on the couch while the game plays on a large screen TV? Shrewd developers might find a way to remain in the adventure business by figuring out how to tap into this market. After all, Clue (Cluedo) got its start as a party game.
(Sorry, dimi. We wound up in agreement only because I was unclear. Mea culpa.)

Anyway some recent wins of the PC over the consoles. Morrowind tribunal, the add on for Morrowind, only released for PC. Any plans for an xbox release? Nahh...
NBA live 2003 better multiplayer support on PC than any other platform. Better screen resolution of any game between PC and platforms? PC. Syberia, first released for PC and then months later for playstation. Post Mortem? Only for PC so far. Zelenhgorm? Only for PC so far. Cameron Files 2? Only for PC so far.
I think it is going to be difficult for adventure developers to start making games for consoles before they get mouse support. And the fact that the PC market is not incresing right now, maybe this is because everybody has a PC right now, while not everybody owns a console.
Anyway if you want to watch your PC games on your TV all you have to do is buy a graphics card with a TV out and connect your PC to your tv. It's not like an exclusive feature of the consoles.
I think I'll stick to my PC for now.

I've done that for parties and it's great. Be even better if I didn't have to lug the PC to the TV room.
I'll be interested to hear what you have to say about Post Mortem...

I'm going to buy Post Mortem anyway, cause I want to support them as much as possible. I'm sure you're enjoying it a lot though ;-)

I'm also enjoying Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, the 7th in the Nancy Drew series. Solid entertainment. Nancy Drew is turning into a very impressive franchise. Nothing flashy, just modest improvements on a set formula from game to game. Anyone buying a Nancy Drew game has a very good idea what to expect. And, if you like that formula, it makes buying each new title a no-brainer.

I haven't played a single game of the Nancy Drew Series. Never saw a copy not in UK, not in Greece not in Sweden either. But is the theme of the game mature? I've heard it is a children's game. Is that true?

And it should be noted that Nancy can be murdered if she fails to trap the killer or die if she does something foolish. The game immediately gives players a Second Chance to try something else so there is no need to restart from an earlier saved game.
Players are also given a choice of playing as Junior or Senior Detectives. Senior Detective level can be delightfully challenging.
My older son steadfastly refused to play Nancy Drew because it was a "girls' game." Then he started playing. Now he's hooked.
So, to answer your question, are they for children? Yes, if those children are intelligent children. And anyone of any age who just happens to like a diverting mystery.
