I'll buy this when it gets cheaper (still looking for ut 2004 special edition) NO SOUP FOR YOU! |

This is a first-class, triple-A title and as for the next patch - we've been told it's a quicksave patch! But personally, I don't care. I'm getting through this game without a quicksave function, and I really think Crytek did a good job designing the game to utilize the saves correctly. There's been some moaning about getting to a point and getting killed just before the save, but this game REALLY relies on skill and pre-planning to get you anywhere. Some bad guys DELIBERATELY camp the save points. It's funny... getting just to the exit only to have someone or something rip into you at the last moment. If anything, it made me want to complete levels MORE. Learning the route, the choices, doing things wrong and figuring new ways of solving problems. The level I just completed was camped by a rocket launcher and two snipers, whilst a heli dropped more troops off and mutants attacked. A huge, open area, with a road going off to the left, a tower and massive bridge spanning the chasm. I tried crossing several times, to no avail, but eventally plunged into the sea at the bottom of the chasm and took people out from under the bridge. GREAT! Get UT2k4 if you want a multiplayer game. Get BFV if you want a more sedate, thoughtful multiplayer game. Get Far Cry for the most amazing games experience yet. I'm not joking either... I've played thousands and thousands of games (rofl, not quite! ) and never have I sworn, smiled, cheered, was shocked or scared by and gloated at a game. It's now my official number one. It's the FPS I've been waiting for since Unreal Poo was announced. Far Cry is not just "alright". It's the next step. |

Bob_the_BuilderJourneyman![]() Posts : 956 Joined: 25 APR 2003 Status : Online | I'm not really expecting Far Cry to become cheap, but if I see it on sale for a low price I'll get it. I really enjoyed the demo for UT 2004 and I loved assault in UT 1999 so I'll probably get that once I find the special edition (not buying a game on 6 cds) Battlefield Vietnam looks alright, but it just seems like a standalone expansion pack to me, with the only real cool thing about it being Jefferson Airplane and other 60's music playing in the helicopters. Plus the mod, Eve of Destruction is cool enough for me http://www.planetbattlefield.com/eod/ The reason why I'm not in a huge hurry to get Far Cry is that it just feels a lot like Soldier of Fortune. It's a fun shooter, but aside from the engine, it doesn't seem revolutionary. Once the save game issue is fixed, I'll probably get it. NO SOUP FOR YOU! |

| Deleted User | Man, you are picky. BTW It is NOTHING LIKE in ANY WAY Soldier of Fortune. Whatsoever. Did you read my mini-review? If it was anything like SOF I wouldn't be playing it. It's more like Doom meets Half Life meets a massive tropical island. It is absolutely nothing like SOF in any way, other than it's and FPS and has guns in it. It requires a lot of thought and tactics on the upper difficulty levels, with AI using space and cover to attack you, and later on the massive Trigens become a right pain in the ass. I got to another research complex last night. After being chased through corridors by huge mutants with rocket launchers, I ended up in a massive, round, blue-lit room (got to love the lighting - shoot a hanging lamp and the light sways realistcally). In the center a giant hologram flickered through the different types of mutant as a fight raged between a couple of humans and some mutants. The Mutants finished them off - blue-skinned humans with massive, gnarled smiles - then proceeded to jump EVERYWHERE, like 30 ft into the air, firing machine guns and running around between the pillars. It's one of those moments that makes you realise this game is something special. The first time you meet these guys, outside in a massive battle, you have to grab a jeep, open a gate and get the hell out of a besieged fort surrounded by hills. The Mercs are too busy with the mutants... you step out from the fort and are astounded by rockets flying into the dawn sky, mercs running left, right and center and then shocked as one of those blue things lands in front of you, shoots and leaps up onto the building behind before leaning over and fragging the crap outta you. This game, as all reviews have said, may not LOOK revolutionary other than the backgrounds, but IS revolutionary thanks to it's sandbox design and clever gameplay. Dude.... I can't stop myself.... you gotta buy it! ROFL! |

I have more fun playing Knights of the Old Republic which is a much better game or System Shock 2 which is officially the best game ever. Fantastic Graphics, but there's nothing revolutionary about the gameplay. It borrows alot from Halo even the vehicles. The Autosave is annoying. The freedom is good but occassionly the game drags as you go on a detour up a mountain completly by-passing all the enemy. It makes for uneven pacing in the action. The Binoculars are essential and a very good part of the game.- Nice feature. So far it's a very good but flawed game. Half Life 2 will kick it's arse. I found KOTOR to be excellent but no way NEAR as exciting... besides, its a totally different gametype so not even worth the comparasion. It's the next freakin' step dude... And if you find Autosave annoying... man, I come from the C64 age, so I got tons of patience. But you're entitled to your opinion. Even if it's wrong. *runs* |

Still, the actualy game itself flows really nicely. You'll crap yourself - guaranteed - when you meet your first trigens face-to-face. AAARGH they're little b*stards... |

Bob_the_BuilderJourneyman![]() Posts : 956 Joined: 25 APR 2003 Status : Online | Yeah, I know I can be picky. I didn't think the blood and stuff was anything like Soldier of Fortune, the combat just felt like soldier of fortune to me. The demo just didn't impress me enough to buy the game right away. The vehicles and the giant island were cool enough, but the gameplay itself just felt standard to me. Like I said before, I'll get it when the game becomes cheaper or the patch thing is fixed because I'm currently looking for UT 2004 special edition (which is a pain in USA) NO SOUP FOR YOU! |

I'm going to buy it on Friday (first free moment I'll have), assuming the local GameStop has it in stock. I only have the 9700 pro, not the 9800 pro though for video card, but hopefully it won't make a difference. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas... |

Graphics have never looked so good and it is some serious competition for Doom3 (I played the alpha/beta) and Stalker (based on the movies and screenies). But no real competition ofcourse, since the other games haven't been released yet Started playing it on a Athlon 2200+, 1Gb mem and a Radeon 8500SE. I could set environment quality to medium and the rest on low. Two days later I bought a Radeon 9800pro. Now I play with all setting on max What I like most of all in this game is that adjusting the difficulty setting doesn't result in more enemies. It results in smarter enemies. They actually work together. On several occaissions I've been pinned down by one baddy (shooting at the rock I was behind) whilst his buddies where trying to flank me. It's great. I just saw the first experiment kill a baddie, so I'm guessing I'll be shooting beasts soon. Bought it the day it first came out and haven't played anything else at all. I am in Control right now, just on my way to the Rebellion. Scared as HE double toothpicks. I loved Steam and Pier. Unbelievable immersion. TOTAL immersion at a couple of points, when the mercs snuck up behind me and caught me hiding in the bushes, trying to scope out the scenes below. Whoa! Jumped outta my chair and spilled coffee everywhere! Good thing I've got wireless kb and mouse.... : It's gonna take me weekends and weekends to finish this darned thing but I have not had so much fun in eons. The draw distance is absolutely incredible. And the conversations overheard via the binocs are sometimes hysterical. Gonna fix MY little red wagon, eh? I'm having a blast blasting everything in sight and I am an avowed pacifist. Whoa howdy. This is what gaming is all about: adrenaline, beauty, and crickets chirping in the moonlight over the water as my sniper rifle takes 'em out, one by one by one.... JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!! Well, sorta............ |

It's got some great levels, a few downers, and... *SPOILER* at end of post! *post-spoiler* I don't like the multiplayer AT ALL. But other than that, an excellent game. I sold it now, and am playing another game I sold a while back and regretted. See my new post, Hidden and Dangerous 2. *SPOILER* (highlight) [size=0.25]...an ultra lame ending. |

| Deleted User | COD: UO is a very tiring, repetitive game and quite shallow compared to the original. One level has me ripping my hair out ATM because it's so boring and my teammates so crap. One thing Far Cry does fantastically is making you think on your feet. The demo isn't really a good indicator as to how good Far Cry's entire game is - well, save for its terrible plot. The kick comes on playing at the hardest level and outwitting the AI (or trying to - they deliberately distract you and sneak up behind sometimes), or planning your procedure as to how to approach your missions. COD leads you by the hand, although cinematically it's fantastic and original is a stunner. Far Cry says - here's an enemy base. Do you take them out from here with the sniper rifle, but alert others in your area and possibly enemy snipers? Do you sneak in the back way and take them out undercover style? Or do you go in all guns blazing? |

| Deleted User | yeah, I'll never forget in Far cry towards the beginning where you are on a rusted out ship trying to escape. On the top deck was a motorised inflatable raft.... I must have made 20 attempts to battle my way through the top deck to get to the raft so I could release it and escape... * spoiler * Then I suddenly had an idea that I may be able to see the raft from a lower deck if I managed to get my head out far enough... Sure enough, located the raft from a lower deck... got out the sniper rifle... shot through the cables and released the raft, then jumped off the ship.. swam to the raft and off I went.. What a buzz... I played on the hardest level, but towards the end, the game got ridiculously difficult. |
