Just a quick question:

Does anybody know if BS3 was a financial success? (relatively of course...)  How many copies had been sold?

Regarding number of copies sold, I'm going to refer you to sales figures from Randy's latest State of Adventure Gaming that features total sales figures for 2003.  The number looks like 3,013.  Keep in mind the game has only been out for a short while and the list does not include online sales or foreign markets, so it is probably higher.

As to whether or not it's a financial success, I couldn't say.  Anybody know where I can view their annual report?

Steve Ince could probably tell us, assuming he's not under a NDA, or something.

I don't know how it works for foreign companies (Revolution is in the UK), but here in the U.S., financial data for markets publicly traded on the stock market has to be made available to investors.  Most companies have the information available on their website.  Perhaps Revolution is a small company and is not involved with stock shares & therefore does not have to post the information.

Steve Ince, where are you?

I'm not sure what target number of sales they expected to hit, but I'm guessing they didn't hit it. After the initial hype the adventure community seems to have greeted BS3 with an indifferent shrug and no one outside the adventure community seems to have noticed the game at all. Also, consider that Beyond Good and Evil was largely similar in a number of ways, and being an action game was much more average gamer friendly and it was much better advertised and got much better word of mouth and still tanked.
Syberia 2 seems to be headed in the same ho-hum direction and of course we need not mention the cancellation of Sam and Max. I hope you like ill-produced Adventure Company crap, because methinks that's what we are back to.

Deleted UserI spent $AU79.95 on this game and need to get a NEW, faster,  computer before I can install it.  I pre-ordered it and at the time it didn't give the basic requirements online at the time.  I was devastated when it arrived and I couldn't install.  Oh well! I have BS1 but could never get BS2 so I wasn't going to miss out on BS3
Something to look forward to when I do buy a new PC .... maybe next year!  Hardly worth buying a new computer for ONE game, but undoubtedly I will need more "grunt" if/when they start releasing all the NEW games everyone keeps talking about!  :

No, I cannot upgrade the CPU ......  :'(

Considering they are already starting on Beneath a Steel Sky 2 I would guess the game was probably moderatly successful.

If it was a complete flop then Revolution would not be making another adventure.

Unless of course BASS2 is a 3D Platform game with RPG elements

I read in a magazine that sales of BS3 were pretty disappointing.

As for BASS2, don't count your chickens yet. It could go the same way as Sam and Max 2.

That anual sales chart- is that units sold or the amount of money spent buying them?

Well, if you look at Ray's figures for Jan/Feb it's sold another 2000 copies, bringing the total sold in the US to just over 5000. I see it is being beaten by Dark Fall.

These figures don't include internet sales and some retail outlets where the figures would be much larger, but they don't tell a pretty picture, do they?

They'd probably need to sell into six figures to start making a profit. And if you compare it to other recent adventure big sellers like TLJ and Syberia, which sold well over 200 000 worldwide it does not compare well. Of course, much of those two titles first big sales came from Europe and it could be that BS3 is doing well there. But with no figures out, who can tell?

I contributed to that amount.

It's still being sold for £30 in the UK, so I assume it's doing reasonably well here.
