Status : Online | PS2 is big in RPG, racing games and action. There are no trademark gaming mascots like Nintendo has. Is that one of the reasons why you like Mario and Zelda?
N64 had a lot of RPGs and platformers like Mario or Donkey Kong. I'm not sure about the Gamecube. I know there is that Mario game which is like classical Mario, but you have to wash away paint from the levels. Sounds cheesy, but should be fun like the previous. There's Zelda Windwaker. And Starfox Adventures. I'm not up-to-date and have to stop here.
Gamecube definitely has less games, simply because it is not as long on the market as PS2.
Forget about the X-Box if you have a nice PC. It's the reason why PC has to wait for games longer and why the code is messed up cause they use the same for both platforms, producing bugs, lowering performance and the like. It's a question of principle and honor!

Gamecube is failing badly and has few games but in Zelda and Metroid prime has two of the best games ever made (plus the console is really cheap)
X-box is by far and away the most powerful of the 3. Better Graphics and sound etc. Has a decent amount of games out with some crackers like Knights of the Old Republic, Rainbow Six and Halo. Unfortunatly you can get most of them on PC anyway so ???
So it really depends what you want.
PS2 - Large selection of games esp RPG , Dated Graphics
Gamecube - Nobody supports it anymore but Nintendo's own games best around
X-Box - PC in a console. Best Graphics. Alot of games PC conversions.

Status : Online | I have a GameCube and love it for the many Nintendo exclusive games. It's great for multiplayer party games like Mario Party 4 and 5. Also the WaveBird wireless controllers are excellent, with a long battery life- and the gaming unit is TINY, taking up very little room on my entertainment center.
However, the GameCube versions of a number of games I was looking forward to (Futurama, D& Heroes, and BG Dark Alliance II) were cancelled, only to be released on Xbox and/or PS2.
I am currently agonizing over which of the 2 other systems to buy. I know Xbox games are often eventually released on PC, but there's no guarantee. And there are certain upcoming games, like Fable which I think I absolutely must have.
I've always been curious about the FF games, which have been PlayStation staples, and don't always have PC versions. However, I'm afraid that Microsoft's habit of snapping up promising new games as Xbox exclusives is going to force me to begrudgingly buy one.

At this time, it looks that I will probably buy the PS2 console system. Gamecube also looks good, there are some games I would love to play (Mario, Zelda, and the Resident Evil Series). Anyone knows if they are going the release the Resident Evil series to another console system?
It is good to know that most of the XBox games are going to be available for PC, I have a very good computer, so I dont feel the need to buy more of the same games. Any XBox "exclusive" game worth buying?

PS2 has a hard drive? ??? I didnt understand, I asked my son about this and he said you could buy an adaptor for it, he wasnt real clear on how it worked either, well, this morning Im looking thru the sale papers and I see a network adapter for PS2 for $39.99, hmmmm still not sure how this works, I wonder, do you hook it up to your PC, or does the adaptor have its own hardrive? I am totally confused, an anyone explain this to me? ???

I think if you have both devices you screw the netowork adaptor to the back of the Hard drive then insert the hard drive in the back slot.

And what about the XBox and Gamecube? Are there hard disks available for them too? ???

1. X-box 2. Gamecube 3. PS2

Status : Offline | Ahh, Thank you Lucien, I was just so confused about the whole thing. And DJ, if we're going for a rating, my order would be. 1) PS2 - because there are so many more titles 2) Gamecube,- SOME really good games not that many titles, but the graphics are wonderful. 3) X-box - wonderful graphics, but IMO, way to expensive, I just feel if you have a pc, why bother. of course if money is no object by all means I would have an x-box too. But thats just my opinion.

Interesting. Well, considering the info I got from this thread and my personal preferences, I think my opinion is more like Helen's.

2) Gamecube,- SOME really good games not that many titles, but the graphics are wonderful. The Gamecube titles that I am really interested in playing are the Mario series, Zelda series and the Resident Evil series, and AFAIK, they are exclusive to Gamecube.
3) X-box - wonderful graphics, but IMO, way to expensive, I just feel if you have a pc, why bother. Exactly, I have a good PC at the moment, and the few titles that are exclusive to X-Box are not that appealing to me.

Another point to consider - the next XBox will almost certainly be incompatible with the current one (totally different CPU, PowerPC instead of x86). PS3 on the other hand is highly likely to be able to play PSX and PS2 games.

1 PS2: +lots of great games +a lot of excellent RPG's (and great upcoming RPG's) +PSOne backward compatible +a lot of PS2-exclusive titles (Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Pro Evolution Soccer) +best controller of all consoles -some PS2 games will look better on a X-Box
2 Gamecube +Nintendo characters Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong with some great games! +lots of "fun" "family" platform games -Not ENOUGH games, and too many games that are not being released on the Gamecube -very few (ACTION)/RPG's and games for more mature audience
3 X-Box +Most powerful console -very few X-Box exclusive titles (Project Gotham Racing, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic and the upcoming Halo 2 and the only ones) -only has SPORTS, RACING, ACTION titles -FABLE has the potential to be a game EVERY action/adventure fan will want to play, but thus far the system has no games that might appeal to adventure fans.

Yes, it's on PC, but of the three consoles it's only on X-Box.

All three current consoles have good points:
Gamecube - cheap ($99 dollars) AND plays all gameboy games giving it a HUGE selection.
X-box - VERY powerful and has alot of PC ports. Basically a PC hooked to your TV.
I have a PS2 because some of the best ADVENTURE games are released just for it. The Japanise LOVE adventure games and it's not unusual for one in Japan to sell millions of copies. Adventure games with a horror theme are really popular there. Most of these games are released in the US as well: Siren - B The City of the Lost Children - A+ Silent Hill 1 - 3 - A+ Fatal Frame 1 - 2 - A+ Clock Tower 1 - 3 - B+ Echo Night - B Fear Effect 1 and 2 - A+ Resident Evil 1 - 4 - A Dyno Crysis 1 -2 - B X-Files 1 and 2 - A Escape From Monkey Island - A+ Myst III - B Shadow of Destiny - A+ Disaster Report - A Since ALL PS1 games play on the PS2 with enhanced graphics, the selection on the PS2 is the best of any console. You can also play DVD adventure games such as Sherlock Holmes and Dracula Unleashed just fine as well. SO - unless you HAVE to have power OR the ability to play Gameboy games, buy a PS2.

Status : Offline | Oh yeah D.J. the first 3 I believe were PS1, ( if my memory serves me right ) then Gamecube got the rights and remade them and also had 4,which was "Resident Evil 0" but there was also a 4 for Sega dreamcast, "Veronicas Code"which was also released for PS2, (gets confusing) then they released the latest one for PS2, ( which I was a little dissapointed in ) and now the newest one is due in September, but I would have to refer to our gaming magazine to tell you the name of it. Anyway, cant wait.
