hi there,

I've finished the Post Mortem demo and experienced
the problems with sound - it played almost fine, except for
the music played with irritating noise background. I seemed
a bit like the sampling rate of a playback was so low,
the amplitudes were cliped. Then I found the sound files
in mp3 format in istalled directory and if I played them manually,
the sound was clear. I even turned on the hardware sound
acceleration to maximum as advised in PM demo readme file.
It didn't help though. The thing is I've experienced the same
problems with music playing Syberia.

Does anyone have a clue for this or is it a flaw I have
to tolerate?

thanx for advance

I have the same problem. Sound in the game is noisy, mp3s/wavs in the data directories are crystal clear.

What sound card do you have? I have an old SB AWE64 which I suspect might be causing it. Not because the card is bad but possibly because it doesn't support 48kHz sampling rates and there is some poor downsampling code somewhere. But that's just a wild guess.

I don't even know if it's something specific to Microids games, it could be a DirectSound problem for all I know.
I forgot my sig.

nope, I don't think so,

I've got SB LIve! and only experienced this background noise
in Syberia and Post Mortem demo. In NOLF 2 where sound
is also compressed to mp3, there were no such problems to my
knoledge...
