Re: petitions Not to be cynical, but they never do anything, especially online ones. A friend of mine who worked in the PR department of Interplay watched a mailed-in petition for some cancelled game go straight into the trash.
But knock yourselves out.

Yep, you're right.
Emailing them a letter would do much more, and the best thing you can do is send them a letter by mail to their address.
Which would be:
LucasArts P.O. Box 10307 San Rafael, CA 94912

You're almost certainly right, but it can't actually hurt. As someone at the AG forums pointed out, the petition at least shows the number of people who've signed, and the LucasArts mob are very interested in numbers :

Looks like we'll keep on needing to rely on the Europeans for good gaming.

I wrote a brief semi-courtious statement and then enclosed a link to a page that "I thought said it all for me and my feelings on Lucas Arts"
It is articulate and succinct.

I hope they enjoy this page - I know I sure did.

And on Bluesnews as well (Shacknews too, probably.. haven't checked). These sites are mostly populated by long-time gamers.. who undoubted grew up on adventure games before moving onto other genres. Which is good for us.. more wood for the fire.

If they want to stop producing adventure games, fine. Actually, I'd rather they can the games if the screenshots are any indication of their quality.
You know what? We've got Microids and the Adventure Company now. Make way for the newcomers. They're 100 times fresher than Lucas Arts could ever be at this point. We can't act like Lucas Arts have been spoiling us lately. Full Throttle 2 looked horrible. Sam & Max 2 was iffy. And rumours are circulating that the next Monkey Island isn't even gonna be an adventure game. Well whoop-di-doo, if that's the kind of effort Lucas Arts is going to put in this genre, then I'm glad they're backing out, and thank God for the Kate Walkers of the new generation of adventure games.

Depends. Online campaigns actually are successful sometimes. For example, the TV show Roswell was extended for another season as a result of Internet outcry. Additionally, Comedy Central buckled under Internet pressure to release the Upright Citizens Brigade on DVD. It's better to have tried and failed than not to have tried at all.
Unfortunately, LucasArts doesn't seem interested in producing ANY adventure games for the PC any time soon. They're just lookin' at those juicy console dollars.
Oh, hey MonkeyDude, where'd you hear about the Alice cancellation? I haven't heard anything about that. (Frankly, I wouldn't be too surprised if it was true, because the interview I saw with McGee earlier this year sounded like they hadn't even started with the game.)

You're talking about the early screenshots I presume? The latest screenshots that appeared in various gaming magazines actually looked pretty good.

Those are the very rare exceptions. For every successful 1, I can name 5 that failed. Stark Raving Mad, Space: Above and Beyond, Birds of Prey, Farscape, Lone Gunmen.. all failed petitions. I think e-mail or letters are the more sensible way to go. There's something much more menacing about a heaping pile of mail than a few pages of html.
I think Lucasarts was just looking to make a quick buck out of their old franchises. Why else would there be a sudden revival of 3 of their old adventure titles, all at the same time? That Sam n' Max was actually shaping up to be a good game was just a lucky coincidence for them (and us).
Leon: I wouldn't be so quick to brush off Lucasarts. I remember Justadventure posted an article last year about Microids' financial woes.. apparently they were very close to bankruptcy. Syberia 2 is going to be their make or break game.

What upsets me is that LucasArts is interested enough to charge the highest prices for their oldies (at least in Sweden) of any company I've seen, yet they completely disregards the interest for some new ones.
Also, as long as they hold the rights, noone else can make any new ones based on the characters we all have come to love. Sad :'(.

Monkey Island 4, the combat-orientated Full Throttle 2... They've not made a decent game since Grim Fandango, and that was over five years ago. Lucasarts have jumped the shark. That's all there is to it. They made good games - years ago - but nowadays they're just unable to do that. I'm more interested in the upcomming Adventure Company games, I have faith in them.
