I was looking forward to this and I thought the development was nearly finished talk of a May release.
:'( It's a bad day for adventures. Just when things were looking up.

| Deleted User | A couple of months ago, LucasArts hosted a web survey. It asked many questions about consumer tastes in games and humor. Many of the questions were about adventure games in general and specifically about S&M. It appeared that LucasArts was trying to tailor the content and the marketing of S&M2 accordingly.
I guess they weren't happy with the final results of the survey.

I can't believe they can release drivel like RTX Revolver and Wrath and cancel a game that was more or less finished. Surely it makes more business sense to try and recruperate some money back rather than write off the development cost.
I think they are wrong I think a Sam and Max 2 game would have sold really well. They are underestimating the market. The humour would have been a big selling point.

| Deleted User | Welllll....... since Alice wasn't an adventure game at all, but rather survival-horror/combat, I was expecting the same from Oz. I can't say I am the least bit disappointed in its temporary demise.
But S&M2... it makes me want to weep. :'(

| Deleted User | Well, I didn't post that for you in particular, you big ol' purist you, but for the huge amount of McGee fans on the forum.
I've been thinking that the sheer idea that they don't want to invest in it is more an indication of the sorry state of the videogames industry since the market got bigger. No risks, nothing new... I've been looking into the independent games developer scene here in the UK. You wouldn't believe how many of them have gone under this past year...

They know that if they slap Star Wars on the game it will sell even if it stinks. It's the easy return that most big companies are looking for.
Origional games don't get a look out. We have to rely on independants to get our adventures.
Adventures are not big business anymore.

I haven't seen the graphic demo, but I did see the trailer and it looked great. I am pretty disappointed, and actually quite surprised. I thought the game was nearly finished.

My reaction to S&M2's cancellation is mixed as was my reaction to its creation. Obviously it would never have lived up to S&MHTR and they probably should have used a new property in the first place. But now that we've waited for a couple of years for it and the game is 95% done?!? > Sigh.

I was afraid of this, after Full Throttle was canned... :'(
I don't usually swear, but if I were inclined to do so, now would be about the best time in a long time. > The cancellation of Full Throttle didn't bother me this much -- it looked like it was going to be about half action anyway, and while disappointing to see cancelled, I more or less shrugged it off.
But Sam & Max looked different to me, at least from the little I had seen so far. This was was one of my most anticipated adventures this year --- gone.
Any regard I have of Lucasarts out of respect for their legacy of adventure gaming is nearly gone. I'm not sure I care about Monkey Island 5 now -- It'll probably get yanked away from us as well. > :-/ :'(

Status : Online | This is very disappointing, I cannot believe the stupidity to say that they don't want to market an adventure game during this point in time because the sales wouldn't be there. Adventure games are definately making a rise in sales and as long as the game was done well it would have sold

It is indeed a sad day, first Myst Online (I think), then S&M 2.
Someone did mention about great games selling well, it isn't always the case. But the probability of selling a lot should be much higher than crap games such as Big Rigs.
How will the adventure genre be revitalized if game companies keep cancelling their products?

Add to that the fact that this was going to be a point and click adventure game.
Needless to say I'm very, very sad about this.
It baffles me that they canned a game that got so much positive media coverage, even in magazines that ussually don't spend much attention to the adventure genre.
It baffles me even more that LucasArts still hasn't got a ceo after Simon Jeffery left and that some temporary finance idiots with no finger on the pulse are allowed to make such devastating decisions!
I mourn...
[img]http://tim.grimfandango.net/temp/madefunoftitle[1].jpg[/img] Let's bring out some more Star Wars crap then. :'(

This is what the editor of Adventure Gamers has to say about it - he suggests that everyone email the LucasArts PR department to tell them what we think about this. No doubt there'll soon be a petition up at petitiononline.com as well.
