I got Pirates of the Caribbean because it was released by Bethesda Softworks- even though I know it wasn't developed by the same studio that did Morrowind... it just looked like a similar game. And I also know that it didn't originally have anything to do with the film. Still, it looked cool. Pirates and all.

Anyway, I've been trying to play it for a few days and I don't know what to think. The graphics are gorgeous; really lush and alive environments. The controls are very bizarre and difficult to get used to... not to mention the fact that there four different sets of controls for the four modes of gameplay. I'm annoyed that it was pretty clearly developed with consoles first in mind (uses HUGE fonts so you have to scroll down almost every single dialogue page in order to see your responses- big fonts are required on consoles that play on crap televisions, but the PC port could have and SHOULD have used fonts literally 1/4 the size.) But it looks like it might have a good story and it DOES have pirates.

I think I've died every way it's possible to die in the game. I've gotten really good at that, dying. But I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to be doing that. Although the game's manual leaves a lot of stuff out, so maybe I'm doing okay.

So, just wondering- anyone else play and possibly finish this game?

I tried to play it, I really did but I kept thinking I should be playing it with a gamepad. It's a shockingly lazy "multiformat" game.

It barely even has anything to do with the film of the same name, Disney just slapped some money in Bethesda's hands and they renamed Sea Dogs 2 and added some undead pirates and a few references to the Black Pearl here or there.

It's a nice game to look at but there's not really much else in there worth sticking around for really.

Gave up on this one VERY quickly.

You know what's funny, I kept getting killed (and being forced to watch two d*mned cutscenes) my first time out to sea so I looked for a walkthrough to see if I was doing something wrong. The first walkthrough I found said something like "this FAQ is incomplete as I encountered a game-killing bug. I will complete the FAQ if I ever get past the bug."

That sorta killed it for me right there. Currently half-heartedly playing Joan of Arc. Seems fun so far, but I'm wary of the game's supposed RTS elements, which I have yet to encounter.
