Status : Offline | There have been modest improvements in the game engine (Secrets Can Kill, the first in the series, looks a bit dated now) and that is about it.
The whole point of the franchise is to provide more or less the same experience each time. If you like that experience, you've got a lot to choose from. Scarlet Hand departed slightly from the formula by becoming a bit more non-linear.
What you might like almost depends more on the location you'd like to explore. TV studio? Stay Tuned for Danger. Haunted house? Message in a Haunted Mansion. Old theatre? The Final Scene? Castle? Treasure in the Royal Tower. Spooky outdoors? Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake.
Probably be worth it to check in with the Her Interactive forum where the hard core Nancy Drew-ids meet. You can find it here.
I'm a grandfather twice over with a taste for darker games (currently playing Post Mortem) and I think the ND series is great.

Status : Online | I've played all 5 currently released Nancy Drew's and I'm looking forward to #6. There are some minor differences in graphics and game play but they are pretty consistent when push comes to shove. I live in Canada (where Dreamcatcher Games is headquartered) and in local stores I have recently notices jewel case editions of the first 4 games and some 2 in 1 boxed editions that are on sale for very reasonable prices. It's worth a look around for these if you want to go back and play the first 4. The other comment that I would make is that The Secret of the Scarlet Hand is more blatantly in the format of "edutainment" with the museum and Mayan exhibition. The others teach on a topic or two but not so obviously.
By the way, I finished Post Mortem this morning and it just rocks!

Status : Online | Hi,
I have played all of them up to Ghost Dogs and have my game but am waiting til a friend gets their game so we can play somewhat together on this one.
I love N.D. even the old ones. Seems the story and the graphics get a better with each game. Each new game seems to be more involved than the previous one. They are fun and sometimes not that easy to solve the puzzles.

I loved the 'edutainment' in the Mayan museum. I've studied history so I fall easily for these kinds of things
Great to hear, you (and MrLipid too) love Post Mortem! I was thinking of buying another ND or PM. It's available in my local store since yesterday. I think I know what to buy next! Thanks!!

You can find them at that other forum, which which I used to be associated. They may be originally intended for teenage girls, but they are adventurous enough to appeal to most Adv gamers. They are planning on several more.

Status : Online | I've played all of the Nancy Drew's except Ghost Dogs, and if you enjoyed Scarlet Hand you will probably enjoy all the rest if you liked the style and format, because there is great consistency throughout the series regarding game play and interface. And this is probably one of the attractions. However, as someone mentioned, Scarlet Hand does offer much more historical information than the others. My personal favorite is Message in a Haunted Mansion and my least is Stay Tuned for Danger. But I didn't hate any of them. Her Interactive has a really good thing going and so far they haven't tampered with success. The games are broad enough to reach all ages, and they seem to. And both sexes. Hey, my brother always borrows mine.

Status : Online | I thought Scarlet Hand was the weakest game since Stay Tuned for Danger. The Final Scene would be more first choice, although both Haunted Mansion and Royal Tower are quite good. Haven't seen Ghost Dogs, although I do like the title.
